Tinderbox

RIP Tinderbox: 2003 - 2005

About Me

Countless influences fuse gloriously in one huge melting pot of musical bliss; post-rock dynamics, brooding atmospherics, new wave stop-startyness, cheeky cheeky synths, hip-swinging beats and effects-laden guitars!! Melody and invention are of equal importance.

Following their first demo recordings as The Big Sleep in April 2004 (produced by tech-pop genius Eberg and featuring ex-singer Daisy), September 2005 saw them back in the studio with ex-Candyskins legend John Halliday for their debut single; see blog for details on how to buy it!

Tinderbox are NO MORE!! Ollie has gone folk and is now back in Oxford after 3 years in Cardiff, Matt is living in Newcastle with his new band, Joe is studying in Edinburgh and Dan is living in London. So it'd be a bit crazy being in a band together. There is talk of plans and things though...

Sounds Like: '...‘Serenade You’ is standard post-‘Kid A’ fare but with a keen use of space about it, while squelchy analogue synths worm their way through the bare skeleton of a song that is ‘Cure For A Fusspot’, with its distressed, distracted vocals, creating an uneasy atmosphere, with the odd shard of splintered guitar noise to break the ice. A new band still finding their own identity then, but one prepared to take a sideways trip into somewhere removed from the indie rock norm, and so much promise for things to come...' - Nightshift'...the band weave their way through a tapestry of lush chords, clever progressions and curious sounds that give the impression of a group of musicians using every colour in their palette to genuinely attempt something approaching a new sound... they marry an OK Computer wilful structural complexity with a darker barer songwriter based restraint, allowing all focus to zoom in on Ollie’s soft-burdened voice as he sows melodic seams into one’s brain till the effect is hypnotic...' - Open View
