Edd Donovan

An alternative folk singer/songwriter with a big bag full of heart warming, belly tingling, soul touching songs.
Unpretentious, heartfelt, honest tunes. A pure, pure voice, the gentlest guitar and enchanting intimate performances.
Edd grew up in St Helens and moved to Cheltenham to study. After discovering Dylan, the Beatles and Simon and Garfunkel studying stopped and Edd spent the next 6 years living life to the fullest; imagining, writing, learning, playing guitar and starting to craft songs.
He formed bands and played a few gigs but began to start playing short sets as a solo artist. He wrote and recorded the worlds first anti-folk football song in 2001, which became a local favourite. There are still a few copies in circulation.
He played at Cheltenhams legendary alternative and acoustic night, Calmer*(who have hosted acts such as Peter Bruntnell, Paul Curreri and Josephine Foster) in February 2005 and a new voice in alternative folk came into full force.
His first solo demo EP, Paint it what you like was recorded in a few evenings in spring 2005 and received astounding reviews and regular radio play.
Hes since toured the UK playing some of the most respected acoustic shows across the country including the Halfmoon, the Barfly, Acoustica, Beardmuseum, The Troubadour and has shared the stage with the MPE Band, The Barker Band to name but a few.
Delightfully warm, country tinged, storytelling songs. Melodies that feel as if theyre as old as the hills with a voice as fresh as the first sniff of spring.
There are hints of Will Oldham, Wilco, Dylan, Damon Gough, Cat Stevens. This is how songs should be written. This is how songs should be sung. He sings with a warmth, a gentle knowing and a view of the world which is contagious.
He performs with an engaging intimacy, its impossible not to be drawn in and taken on the journey.
A journey through a forest filled with love and death and dreams and loss.
A journey where, ultimately, everything will be all right.
