------------The roots of the band go back to late 2000, when Reto Wittwer and Kasem Chouja meet in Sydney Australia. After a few jam sessions, a unique sound arose where electrifying guitar riffs bonded with exotic drum rhythms. They had their first live performance at The Hopetoun Hotel under the name Flying Mouse. That project had two additional band members (bass guitar, keyboard) and ended in April 2002. Soon after the band established itself alongside singer Daniel Calvo. Topenkin was the name adopted for this phase of King With No Throne’s evolution. For the first time lyrics where sang on top of the already established Flying mouse sound.
Between 2002 and early 2006 Topenkin played at many familiar Sydney venues and festivals, and the band made its name known amongst underground circles. In 2006 the group went back to its original line up (Kasem Chouja: drums, Reto Wittwer: guitar, synthesizer, vocals) and King With No Throne emerged as a new act with a desire to take its music to England, Europe and beyond. On their way to England King with no throne played a gig in Switzerland that was described by the audience as danceable and unique.

-- ---From a personal point, the article vindicates our move from Sydney to London where we have found a place in which our music can reach like minded persons.----------------------------------------------------
------------------------------------------------------------
----------------------------------------------- ---"King with no throne" have been described by audience and critics as having a certain likeness with Pink Floyd, The Doors, Massive attack and The Prodigy. The effect of the music (which often exceeds the 7 minute mark) is for many akin to being drawn into a vast dream landscape.--------------------------------------------------

----------------------------- Good Breakbeat volume from down Under - it gives nearly as rarely as Koalas on apple trees. In addition, part of the Australian band "King with no throne", that performed on Saturday in the "Fasskeller"is a swiss guy, more exactly a "Neuhauser".------------------------------------------------

----------------------------------------------------- The 28 year old music teacher Reto Wittwer is not unknown in the local music scene: He played drums in the punk formation "Burk" and was, before he emigrated to Australia, frontman and skilled guitarist of the funk and blues band "Cockroach".------------------------------------------------

----------------------------- In 2001 in Sydney, Reto Wittwer meets by coincidence the today 30 year old Kasem Chouja, an australian born, irish-syrian drummer. "I lived in a back packer hostel, Kasem worked in a caf..", explains Wittwer. "a common friend drew my attention to him, and we met once for a jam - the chemistry was correct, the band was born." Meanwhile the two held 30 to 40 concerts in Australia, partly supported by further musician. At the moment Wittwer and Chouja are drawn to London "we hope that we will recieve better reactions, just like in "Schaffhausen", says to Wittwer. "Contrary to England, in Australia unfortunately, one is not at all used to this kind of experimental music - a mixture of breakbeat, pop, psychedelic and ambient - ". In order to survive in London, both of them plan to work as music teachers. ------------------------------------------------------------

------------- the concert on Saturday at the "Fasskeller" was well crowded and the audience despite stuffy air and bad acoustic was impressed by the well dancable sounds, which reminded of a mixture between "Pink Floyd", "The Doors", "Massive Attack" and "Archives". Kasem Chouja conjured at the drums with hard, pacy and highly-"itemized" break beats, while Reto Wittwer artfully plays the keys and controllers of his novation synthesizer or strumms the strings of his electric guitar, -with virtuose solos- and sang in addition for example the song "King with no throne". The audience thanked with hearty applause and the demand of several additions. Perhaps there is Koalas on apple trees.-------------------------------- ------------------------------------------------------------
