The Best Open Mic Night We Know !

About Me

A Spoonful of Poison started in 2005 and has gained an almost legendary reputation as one of the best open-mic nights in the known universe. It takes place EVERY Monday at The Rhythm Factory, 16-18 Whitechapel Road, London E1 1EW.Entry is FREE and the sign-up list opens at 7pm. Musical spots are 7mins, spoken word 5mins.Although our only discriminatary criteria is "NO F**KING COVERS !" we do tend to prefer alternative/leftfield/up-beat/odd/funny/ experimental performance, but this can be in any form : music, poetry, comedy or any random slapstick behaviour capable of entertaining the troops. IF YOU ARE A BAND LOOKING FOR A GIG : you might be better off looking at our sister night LET THEM EAT GAK , a quality alternative new bands showcase night... Please bear in mind A SPOONFUL OF POISON is a fairly low-key (though anarchic) affair - we can accomodate minimal percussion but we heavily discourage full drumkits ! Hi-hats and snare are just about feasible... Feel free to bring your beats and backing tracks on CD to rap, sing, rant over... Every week we have special guests and the following DJs on rotation : every 1st mon: DJ CALL-CENTA
every 2nd & 4th mon: BB METS
every 3rd mon: LAZYBOY LEWIS THE PHANTOM SKATER has left the building... those who have also served:
SNEAKY "Purple Pie" PETE
PSEUDOPHILE
WILLY NILLY
JIGGY POP
and once, JET from TRASH FASHION....
This account is not checked every day.

Good shit

Sounds Like: that sporadically great mix-tape your mate did you when he was off his face on K. Or in the words of some of our patrons : “Don't think [the london paper feature] did you justice, but if Spoonful was something journalists understood then perhaps it wouldnt be so good” - James Severy"It was the most interesting and vibrant night I've played in ages, really open-minded." - Kate Richardson"most raucous and unpredictable, edgiest, darkest, upside-down and inside out open mic in london. spoonful of poison FTW grrrr :-D" - Un Pop"I told AJP Daryl you thought Babble was a bilge of bollock-fodder and he took that as a recommendation ha ha" - Rhys from Babble
