About Me

This page first began as an expression of my work at the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC), an organization founded in 1917 as a practical expression of the values of the Quakers and committed to the principles of nonviolence and justice.
While I've now left AFSC, I am working directly with the Miami Friends in helping to develop and coordinate their Miami-based Center for Peace, Education, and Social Justice. I'm very excited about the possibilities and about also continuing to work closely with the Florida Immigrant Coalition and South Florida Jobs with Justice.
My work continues to include issues of workers' and immigrants' rights as well as addresses the overly aggressive military recruiting in our schools (truth in recruiting). Peace education is also a large part of the Center's focus and I continue to work on economic justice issues and the effects of global economic policies (fair trade rather than free trade).
I'm always interested in new projects and ideas and would very much like to work on further incorporating art activism into the work. I'd love to hear your ideas and thoughts.
“True peace is not merely the absence of tension; it is the presence of justice.” Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
YOU ARE INVITED TO A FLORIDA SOCIAL JUSTICE GATHERING -- MORE INFO AT FLORIDASOCIALJUSTICE.COM
Know students that you want to protect? Need the truth about military recruitment? Visit myspace.com/truthinrecruiting for more information. Please spread the word and if you need an opt out form (to opt out of having student information sent to the military automatically), let me know or visit the blog on the Truth in Recruiting page called Students -- Know your rights. It's really up to us to make sure that both students and their parents are informed.

I'd like to meet:

Those with a passion for justice who know that "all it takes to change the world is a small group of thoughtful people" (Margaret Mead). Those who would rather be activists than in-activists. Those who just want to share their energy and ideas.
