words are dangerous!

About Me

"For what you do is what's meant to be And I will decide my own destiny"
Alonso was born of Cuban parents in the Bronx, New York and at the age of four his family moved South Florida, which has been his home ever since. His poetry is extremely diverse in theme and style and he expresses himself not only with mere words, but also utilizing performance as an art form. He has performed on TV, radio and stage in venues ranging from intimate coffeehouses and bustling nightclubs to a variety of educational institutions including Florida International University, Miami-Dade Community College, and University of Kansas. He was awarded "Best Book by a Local Author" in the Miami New Times' "Best of Miami 2003 Readers Poll". He competed at National Poetry Slam competition in 2003, 2004 and 2005. In 2004 he opened for the Black Eyed Peas in Miami. Most recently, he performed at El Parque Central de Miraflores in Lima, Peru. Contact Alonso for booking information or to obtain a copy of his book "Self Portrait" or the CD "Thought Criminal".

Monsanto has bullied and bribed farmers, politicians, scientists, journalists and regulators all in the quest to increase corporate profits by patenting genetic strands of life, getting approval for experimental foods that have not been adequately tested, using the legal system to overwhelm and rob people of their rights, privatizing resources and using very slick media campaigns to represent themselves as the answer to ending world hunger. Monsanto is so pervasive it is almost impossible to boycott them without growing your own food but that doesn't mean we can't expose them for what they are, pressure politicians to bring them under control and let the Monsanto know that we do not approve of their actions as a corporation.

Burger King is in a position to make the lives of migrant workers better by agreeing to pay an extra penny per pound for tomatoes, but they refuse to do so. McDonald's and Taco Bell have already signed agreements to do so. Go to the Coalition of Immokalee Workers website to learn more.

The U.S. government has broken every treaty made with the Lakotah Nation. They suffer from higher rates of alcoholism, poverty, illiteracy, infant mortality and a shorter lifespan than the average U.S. citizen. This relationship has not been beneficial to the Lakotah people. On January 1, 2008 the Republic of Lakotah issued a statement to all foriegn governments (USA) and all private landowners within the Lakotah territory of withdrawal from all treaties with the USA. This is an attempt of the Lakotah people to help themselves and assert their legal rights. To learn more and find out how you can help go to the Republic of Lakotah website.
