Finnish Accordionist KIMMO POHJONEN has been playing since age 8 in folk, rock, avant-garde, classical, improvisation, theatre and dance music groups and projects. In 1996 he embarked on a solo career with his solo 5-row accordion project, featuring original compositions, live loops and effects, a dynamic and animated stage performance, orchestrated lights and surround sound. His singular mission is to expand the capabilities, sound, performance, scope and experience of the accordion in many different projects. Current projects include: KLUSTER duo featuring accordion samples by Samuli Kosminen, KTU with King Crimson's Pat Mastelotto, Trey Gunn, Samuli Kosminen, KTU trio with Gunn and Mastelotto, Kluster with Proton String Quartet, Kluster with KRONOS QUARTET, improvisation duo with French drummer Eric Echampard and ANIMATOR with live computer graphic design by Marita Liulia. Pohjonen has composed and performed music for three films the British short film â€Flickerman and the Ivory-Skinned Womanâ€, the Russian full length feature film, â€Majak†and with Samuli Kosminen, the full length Finnish feature film â€Jade Warriorâ€. Pohjonen and Kosminen have also composed music for a Finnish â€circus theatre†performance, Keskusteluja. Pohjonen has composed music for a Swedish dance performance by choreographer Lisa Torun and collaborated in Paris with dancers /choreographers Tero Saarinen and Carolyn Carlson. His music is used in dance and ballet performances by Finnish choreographer Jorma Uotinen.
Past projects include: Kalmuk, featuring Tapiola Sinfonietta, Manipulator with Marita Liulia and buto dancer /choreographer Aki Suzuki, duo Pinnin Pojat with JPP fiddler Arto Järvelä and Ismo Alanko Säätiö.
