About Me

"Oh troops of little vagrants of the world, leave your footprints in my words"
Rabindranath Tagore
Well, I guess I am a vagrant as such..
Having travelled to places, mainly busking, juggling in the streets, I have come to love different countries, cultures, languages. Every culture, language has it's own feel, rhythm and temperament, just like music. I like to cook them up, bit of salt, lots of pepper, stir it up.. whooohoo.. this is HOT! Get your feet off the floor!
A lot of western music I find like a teabag that's been used lots of times. That's why I like to find new grooves, something I haven't heard before. However, not all world music is easy listening to for people who are not familiar with it. That's why I like multi-culti-crossover grooves. A mix of ethnic traditional with western dance beats. As long as it grooves 'n moves!
I tune my style of music to the character of the event; at world music events I tend to spin a lot more organic sounding party music than I would on a trance party. On trance parties I like to spin uptempo electronic etnobeat.
Being a percussionist as well, I have always had an interest for non-western grooves from a wide range of backgrounds. Late 20th century I owned a shop with stuff from all over the world, as were my customers. I liked to create a positive vibe by playing and selling world music and instruments. There were spontaneous jams and interesting meetings with people from all around.
In this period I got into world music even more, searching for new stuff together with my friend Esta (www.myspace.com/djpolyesta). While she started flowering as a great, renewing DJ, I was still mainly busy with other stuff, like making music and organising events at Bar en Boos (www.barenboos.org), where I DJ on a monthly basis since 2005. Esta encouraged me to develop the DJ-ing more. Thanks for that!
I love this music so much, I feel the whole world should hear it! That's my main motivation, my passion to spin the decks!

ehh, I mean Margreet!

I have always enjoyed walking my own way but I do like to broaden my horizon and work together with other inspiring people.
Like I love to spin together with DJ PolyEsta! (See top of Friends list), my long time friend.
Esta and me have actually founded a new collective called Dunya Soundsystem, which we launched at the Balloonparty at Paradiso at the end of 2008.
Since January 2009, I have my own Radioshow at the Concertzender (on internet, cable and satelite), together with three other Global Beats DJ's; PolyEsta, Safri and Nohmada... It's called 'Solta a Franga' and I will be broadcasting every Third Friday of the month from midnight till one (GMT -1hr).

Apart from all this, I am a resident DJ at Bar & Boos and Multipleks as well as a regular seen guest at World Music Centre 'de X', played on a number of multicultural events, International Women's Day, clubs like LVC, het Paard van Troje and a number of underground dance 'n trance parties around the country. I sometimes have joint ventures with Project Twilight, Psytech and NRcake party collectives.
And maybe with you as well? Let me know something!
I also organise and perform other stuff, such as a monthly jam session, a drumcircle, theme parties and theater. I like to experiment by mixing different disciplines into something new. Some projects are in the make! For more info on the non- DJ-related stuff, you could check out my other website.
Influences: Some of the many musicians that make my heart beat faster are...
Fanfare Ciocarlia, Africanism, Shpongle, DelaDap! Boo!, Karsh Kale, Said Mrad, Oojami, Rezerv, Ojos de Brujo, Los Chicharrons, Femi Kuti, Shantel, Future World Funk, Punjabi MC, Dhol Foundation, DJ Swami, Vieux Farka Touré, Issa Bagayogo, Bollywood Brass Band, Midival Punditz, Mamou Sidibé, Hedningarna, Zap Mama, The REG Project, Shantel, Goran Bregovic, Max Pashm, Besh O Drom, OMFO, Balkan Beat Box and of course the World Music Street Orchestra I played in called "Toeters en Bellen".
Sounds Like: Grooves from all corners of the world. Afro, Arabic, Latin, Bollywood, Balkan beats.. versus dance, ska, funk, electro etc..... as long as it makes you jiggle 'n jump.
I don't like to categorise as a person, so with music I also like it mixed. A chameleon flaring rainbow coulors, taking people on a real trip adventure. Let me surprise you with beats from far out places, varying from party music with a fairly organic feel to real up-tempo electronic etnobeat!
Although multi-culti is great, I'm also up for theme events such as African, Latin, Balkan/Gypsy, Oriental only or otherwise... Challenge me!
