About Me

Ronald VAN SPAENDONCKBorn in 1970 in Belgium, Ronald Van Spaendonck is considered as one of the best clarinettists of his generation. In September 2000, he is selected as “a BBC New Generation Artist” and plays as a soloist with the “BBC Scottish Symphony”, the “BBC Philharmonic Orchestra” as well as the “National BBC off Orchestrated Wales”, with which he makes his beginnings with “BBC PROMS” (July 2002). He performs in auditoriums such as Wigmore Hall, Djanogly Hall, St George' S in Bristol like with the festivals of Chester, Brighton, Buxton and in City of London. The prestigious festival of Edimburg will invite him on several occasions. In addition to the already quoted orchestras, Ronald Van Spaendonck performed with the Philharmonic Orchestra of Liege, Orquestra Classica of Oporto, the Oulu Orchestra (Finland), the Symphony orchestra of Zurich, the Philharmonic Orchestra of Luxembourg, Het Brabants Orkest, the Orchestra of the Radio Belgian, the National Orchestra of Belgium, etc. He makes acclaimed debuts in Japan in 2002 within the framework in five concerts, of which one takes place in Suntory Hall of Tokyo, within the “JAL Classic Special New Artist Series”. His partners in chamber music include inter alia the Quartets Skampa, Ysaÿe, Belcea, Szymanowski, Aviv, the Royal String Quartet, the pianists Alexandre Tharaud, Jerome Ducros and Muhiddin D. Demiriz, the violonists Gidon Kremer and Catherine Leonard, the altist Lawrence Power, the violoncellist Marie Hallynck, etc. Many international prices mark out his career: 1st price with the International TROMP competition, 1st price with the Back International Hermanas Competition, 1st price in A.Gi. Driven International Wind Instruments Competition of Rome. He will be also “Juventus Prize winner” in 1991 and “Rising Star” in 1998. His professors were Leon Jacot, Walter Boeykens, Anthony Pay (London) and Karl Leister (Berlin). The very many recordings which he carried out (cf discography) were warmly greeted by criticism (Shock - “World of the music”, 10 - “Repertory”, FF - “Telerama”, “gold Tuning fork” etc). Ronald Van Spaendonck is currently artistic advisor for Company Buffet Crampon and full professor of clarinet to the royal academies of Mons and Brussels.
