About Me

Yulia Ziskel has established herself as an internationally acclaimed solo, chamber, and orchestral musician. Her activities range from being one of the youngest members of the New York Philharmonic's First Violin section, to numerous solo and chamber music appearances throughout the world.Ms. Ziskel gave her US solo recital debut at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall in 2002. She has been praised by the Strad Magazine for “…the sweetness of her sound”. She has also performed in such venues as Alice Tully Hall in New York City, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, Italy, Alte Oper in Frankfurt, Germany, St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall, and the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory in Russia.Ms. Ziskel’s recent performance highlights include critically-acclaimed solo appearances with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Key West Symphony and New York Chamber Symphony Orchestras, chamber music performances at the Kosciuszko Foundation for the Lyric Chamber Music Society of New York, Merkin Concert Hall , Avery Fisher Hall in New York City, Minato Mirai Hall in Yokohama, Japan, and numerous radio appearances including WQXR station in New York. Ms. Ziskel’s performance at the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra’s “Meanings of Tchaikovsky” Festival was praised by the New York Times, New Jersey Star Ledger, and by the New Jersey Classical Society JournalMs. Ziskel’s festival participation includes The Grand Canyon Music Festival, Bellingham and Sarasota Music Festivals, concertmaster of the Pacific Music Festival Orchestra in Japan, and a recent collaboration with Leonard Slatkin at Indiana University Summer Music Festival. Future engagements include a solo recital at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall and return engagements at Merkin Concert Hall in New York City.Yulia Ziskel's awards include First Prize in the "Assembly of Arts" International Violin Competition and the Anna Bernstein Memorial Award.Before her appointment to the New York Philharmonic in 2001, Ms. Ziskel was a member of the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra.Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Yulia Ziskel began her musical training on the violin and piano at age 4. She made her solo debut at the age of 7 at the St. Petersburg Philharmonic Hall and at age 12 as a soloist with St. Petersburg Chamber Orchestra. During her teenage years she has toured extensively, appearing in solo recitals throughout Russia, Germany, Finland, Poland and United States. While in Russia, she was a recipient of the "The New Names" grant, one of the highest honors for young talents. In 1994, Ms. Ziskel's family emigrated to the United States, where she completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Indiana University, and upon graduation, received an "Honorary Certificate for Outstanding Performance in Violin". In May 2000, she received her Master’s Degree from the Juilliard School. Ms.Ziskel's pedagogues include Glenn Dicterow, Yoko Takebe, Nelli Shkolnikova, Lev Ivashenko and Eugenia Poustireva.Yulia Ziskel’s debut solo CD on the Sonoris label features works by Wieniawski, Tchaikovsky, Ysaye, Brahms, and Paganini.
