About Me

I was born in Dallas Texas August 7th 1956,my dad gave me my first guitar when I was 5 or 6. A big Kay "f" hole guitar,with Black Diamond strings that were impossible to play,even if you knew how,which I didn’t.But I banged around on it like I did.In the mean time my mom kept buying me cheap electric guitars like Silvertones,Chess..etc. Finally I met someone who knew a little about playing a guitar,chords anyway,and I talked him in to showing me a few.Simple chords and I learned a few songs,but seemed to lose intrest after awhile,because I couldn’t play like I thought I should.I spent a little while in the school orchestra, playing the violin second chair,were I learned to read music,but most of all it taught me to have a feel for playing together with multiple instruments.Things like timing,and how different insruments interplayed within a song.Later I would be in Colorado,and had long since quit playing the violin.When I was listening to my step brothers "Billion Dollar Babies" album,and I remember thinking "man this is cool".And I couldn’t wait to get back to Texas and pick up my old guitars and play some stuff.My guitars had long since been gotten rid of,but I had some friends who had a band.I used to watch them and think if I had a guitar I could play what they were jamming to.I bought a Vox Phantom 6,and soon I was playing second guitar in the band.I then bought a Fender Sratocaster,and a Ampeg amp.I then came up with bands name that we would be known by for years:"The Blue Sky Blues Band".Which was kind of funny because we didn’t know spit about the blues.We went through several changes in styles of music,once we even had two saxophone players.But we ended up being a power trio with me playing lead,and sometimes singing.

Band Members: I write and play and record alone,I have for many years thanks to multi track recorders and drum machines.I did play in a full band some years ago,but only I am on the earlier recordings.I played all the instruments:guitar,bass, keyboards,drum machine,and on some of the later recordings loops and midi, and although not on these particular songs, a fiddle(or violin for the cultured folk).
Influences: I've been influenced by just about everyone.I can find some great riffs or sounds,and techniques in most anyone,be it jazz,country,rock,classical,blues,or even gospel or bluegrass. Hey good music is good music. But I've had a lot of influence from Hendrix,Clapton,Trower,Betts,Buchanan,Travers,and just about anyone I took a liking to.Some of my early influences were in country music,Hank Williams,Hank Snow...etc.Then came the Beatles and the British invasion.I had found music that really knocked me out and wanted to learn to play the guitar.
