About Me

Dred Sista Ren/LaTressa R. Hodges-Lumpkin considers herself a "WEstorian because their history is fiction, give it back." Her former manager Brother J. Love once wrote "To see her perform is to ride the roller coaster of emotion akin to our experience in this diaspora. This sister presents the perfect picture of what one can accomplish between the artistic and political arenas, along with the talent to thrive in both worlds." To that note Sista Ren has held elective office and was a member of the Black Elected Officials of Illinois. At 25, she was the 7th Congressional District Coordinator for the historic Carol Moseley-Braun senatorial campaign, running her third largest office. She served as an election monitor for the historic South African Election at the request of the South African Consulate General. She was an advisor to the Triton College Black Cultural Center. She successfully lobbied the U.S. Justice Department into convening the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights hearings at Proviso West High School. Which addressed the deplorable treatment and mis-education of the predominantly Black and Latino districts of 89 and 209 particularly young men. My Interests

I'd like to meet:

i would like to meet Brother Arsenio Hall. He took over a fucked up show & rocked it. He jump started many careers. & He refused to back down when they threatened Him not to have The Honorable Minister Farrakhan on as a guest.

i would also like to meet Brother Dave Chappell. this Brother isn't a thermometer taking the temperature then adjusting Himself. He's a thermostat adjusting the temperature, making others acquiesce.

i would like to meet Brothers Rob & Big. hell to the motherfucking, yeah. those Cats are smoofy.

i would like to meet Brother Dr. Cornell West cuz in the words of Brother Mario X "things that are overstood never need to be explained."

Heroes:

Mr. Tom Hodges, Jr., my Grandfather He taught me to question, assert myself & be unapologetically Black. He was a Griot in the old world, the first world tradition. my charge in this life is to tell my GrandDaddy's stories, honor His name & be worthy of His blood.
Mrs. Minnie Lou Hodges, my Grandmother, She taught me that money making is not the measure of a man & that there is power in submission & to play my position. most importantly, She married my GrandDaddy for me.
Mr. Charles Preston Harris, my uncle. He planted & cultivated in me the arts (especially poetry), history, philosophy & politics. @ 9 He gave & quizzed me on the Autobiography of Malcolm X & then Iceberg Slim's Trick Baby. His credo " a wise man teaches a few but everyone teaches a wise man. class is always in session".
the late esteemed Elder Gwendolyn Brooks, She convinced me to lay down the moniker "African-American" for Black cuz it defines us across the globe.
BROTHERS cuz if The Creator created anything better than You all, i ain't seent or heard tell of it yet.
