The Gregarious Mixtape is here!

About Me

Whats good myspace? Happy 08! My name is Olskool Ice-Gre Tha Gud Dr. aka The Tall Brown aka That Cat. I’m from the Southside of Chicago (Englewood area) but I spend equal time on the westcoast (LA) getting that good work in. Those who are familiar with a brother know me as the male half of the group Abstract Mindstate. Those who are being introduced now should know a few things. I have an old school spirit when it comes to Hip Hop, so I respect the foundation and its elders. I’ve been in the game for some time now and I’ve worn/wear many different hats. I wont go into detail because I know you will do your research if the music moves you but I’m sure you’ll be pleasantly surprised by my various accomplishments as well as the many well known individuals who’s lives I’ve been an intricate part of. I consider myself as well as my sound to be present day golden era. I’ve researched, listened to, as well as studied the pioneers of Hip Hop (late ’70’s-early 80’s) but the golden era (’87-’94) was the sound and vibe that influenced and moved me most. Some wont go as far as I did in terms of study and research but thats how I do when I fall in love with something, especially art. Ok I’m done with the intellectual biographical...LOL, lets talk about the sounds you hear playing from the jukebox above. Those are a few joints from my first solo mixtape entitled: The Gregarious Mixtape! All of the production was handled by my main man, the incredibly talented and soulful Rashid Hadee. He’s created timeless classics with Abstract Mindstate as well as his own solo project, group and crew (Chapter 13) but we’re really going there with my solo work. Hadee and I love challenging the art form and are unafraid to try new things, so look for some very interesting collaborative projects following The Gregarious Mixtape! My plan is to have The Gregarious Mixtape in the streets and available online by spring ’08 so look out for it.Hip Hop music has taken a turn in a weird direction and part of the blame is on the suits who destroyed the creativity for bottom line sales and part of it is on the many artists who sell themselves short (and their soul) for a quick buck and 15 minutes of fame. Somewhere in the midst of the chaos and money rappers start believing that lyrics, flows, intellect, timing, wordplay, creativity and originality wasn’t as important as being street. So now we have hundreds of disrespectful, uneducated, hardcore, unoriginal, untalented rappers making millions for the machine (notice I said the machine because the money the "so called" artist makes is crumbs compared to what the machine makes off of their ignorance and stupidity). The balance is gone and its more our fault (the artist) than it is the machine because the machine can only mass produce what we make and if we decide we refuse to make pointless music they’ll have to release what we say the people want to hear. Don’t get me wrong, there is a need for music by intelligent hoodlums but we’ve gone too far! Most of us (people of color) are from the hood so at this point to keep talking about it becomes rape and mistreatment. I say this because we’re edifying an area unfamiliar to those purchasing our stories (so its entertainment for them) but refuse to put money back into the same hood that helped us make the money. Straight up and down we’re all from the hood so its nothing new plus that horse has been beat dead. I’m not hating, I just hate what has happened to the art form so my comments are directed more to the outcome of our greed and shallowness than any particular artist. In the meantime, I’ll continue making good Hip Hop music for the thinkers to enjoy because unlike most, I still do it for the love. In my music you’ll hear truth, love, happiness, pain, social commentary and respect along with bangin beats. The music industry is finally on its last leg and soon will totally self destruct. This is why independents are ruling the game because the machine is being eating by its own monster. The audience isn’t as dumb as they’ve believed it to be over the last 8 to 10 years. Its going back to art and I will be one of the artist who will be a part of its rebuilding back to its normal state. I guess it is truth in the saying "In order to rebuild we have to destroy". I hope I’ve accomplished my goal of creating Hip Hop music that makes you feel good, think or at least smile. Anyway enjoy the music and respect the art...PEACE!..

Band Members: Just me. All of the songs were produced by my main man Rashid Hadee. He's produced several songs for my group Abstract Mindstate and a few very well respected emcee's in Chi and abroad. His latest work can be heard on the new Little Brother album Get Back, he produced a joint entitled Dream. Hadee also got his shine in the Oct issue of XXL with Kanye on the cover. The review is close to the back of the mag and they have his name not a pic so look for Rashid Hadee.
