Motto: In hoc signo vinces. (Under this sign we are victorious). Just wanted to add something from my Irish background.
AUSTRALIA AND THE UNITED STATES Government still refuse to sign the KYOTO PROTOCOL. Notice I said Government because a recent worldwide survey found that the majority of Australian's and American's expressed concern about the impact of energy policy on the environment. The highest levels of concern are found in Australia (94%). I FIND IT TRULY AMAZING OUR GOVERNMENT TOOK THIS STANCE CONSIDERING Australian's have been warned that authorities will have to switch off the water supply to the continent's food bowl which yields 40 per cent of the country's agricultural produce unless heavy rains break an epic drought - heralding what could be the first climate change-driven disaster to strike a DEVELOPED NATION. WE ARE JUST THE FIRST TO BE AFFECTED WHO WILL BE NEXT.
Soon there will only be enough water for drinking supplies. Australia is in the grip of its worst drought on record, the victim of changing weather patterns attributed to global warming and a government that is only just starting to wake up to the severity of the position. I believe it is time everyone became actively involved in campaigning to reduce greenhouse emissions, looking after our environment and looking after each other. We have one chance to get it right. Don't wait for politicians to enforce changes because that will never happen. Global warming over the coming century could mean a return of temperatures last seen in the age of the dinosaur and lead to the extinction of up to half of all species. We may very well already be on the breaking edge of a wave of mass extinctions. In the 1970s and 1980s, massive famines were caused by failed rains. The answers that global dimming models seemed to provide, has led to a chilling conclusion: "what came out of our exhaust pipes and power stations [from all western countries combined] contributed to the deaths of a million people in Africa, and afflicted 50 million more" with hunger and starvation. Scientists said that the impact of global dimming might not be in the millions, but billions. Irreversible damage may only be about 30 years away. There will be rising sea levels. This in turn would impact many of our major world cities. A Sahara type climate could be possible in places such as England, while other parts of the world would fare even worse. Such an increase in temperature would also release one of the biggest stores of greenhouse gases on earth, methane hydrate, currently contained at the bottom of the earth's oceans and known to destabilize with warming. This gas is eight times stronger than carbon dioxide in its greenhouse effect. Due to the sheer amounts that would be released, by this time, whatever we would try to curb emissions, would be too late. This planet is like a delicate flower and it must be cared for. It's lonely. It's small. It's isolated, and there is no resupply. And we are mistreating it. "Scott Carpenter, astronaut. About me. Too much to tell. I am interested in everything. Please read my blogs, they will give you a little indication about who I am and please, please have a look at my videos. The videos are really important and are relevant to everyone. I am not here to find a partner, I am here to make friends, male or female, with people who feel they share the same interests as me. Please drop by and say hello.
