About Me

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V3.6 !
hello... my name is Erik, i'm the band on the couch... i was born in Florida in 1966 and now live in the wilds of western Maine, thus fulfilling one of my lifedreams... having had a nagging guitar habit on and off throughout my life, i finally began recording stuff about two years ago... the timing seemed right, two kids, two jobs... why not go crazy staying up all night listening to loops... so here we are... music is total therapy for me, and sharing it with my children is a joy beyond words... i started recording my songs as a kind of stretching soundtrack, yoga music as it were... slow and steady, like a heartbeat at rest, which as a parent IS my quest... i guess i approach my music like painting... i never intend to play these again, no, that ain't me babe, i won't be electrifying concertgoers with my magic axe anytime soon... they're my simple little collections of spilt sound, which give me a great deal of peace and delight... i hope they do the same for you...the guiding forces... my lovely wife, my now 3 wonderful children, music, surfing, cross country skiing, mtn. biking, gardening and reading...thanks for checking it out... peace and love, erik...here are some videos i've made, and some couch faves as well... good visuals...i love the ocean...

Band Members: well it's just me... and the couch obviously... children are drawn to the couch and the neato pedals and gadgets that reside under it's belly... during the daylight hours, said children enjoy turning all the pedals knobs to eleven, and nighttime is heralded by the spilling of blood from my eardrums... but i'm learning... we're all just playing in the band, jam on...
Influences: gonna try to limit it to ten or so, since we all know lists such as this can go on forever... these are my pillars as it were...The Church and all their resplendent solo endeavors, Neil Young, Augustus Pablo, Bill Laswell, Cocteau Twins, George Harrison... and the Beatles too... The Waterboys, The Clash, The Grateful Dead, Lee Scratch Perry...that took some soul searching... ten more off the top of me head...DJ Spooky, Kate Bush, Pink Floyd, Midnight Oil, T. Rex, The Cure, Zappa, Dexter Gordon, Pavement, Jeff Buckley, Yo La Tengo.... that makes eleven i see... it does go on forever don't you know... many fantastic colors.... hmmm, speaking of influences, have a hit of this........and then there's David Sylvian, like a cloud... Steel Cathedrals, pts. 1 & 2you know, Andy Goldsworthy is a beautiful man... i love playing guitar along with Rivers and Tides... here's a bit...skateboarding as art? amaze yourself all over again...the concrete canvas...
Sounds Like: the ocean as heard from a surfboard... in motion and at rest... floating.
