I come from a kind of Ouija Board school of thought on music-making. I have always simply put my hands on instruments and let what happens, happen. I am in love with many different kinds of music.

I also love the art of recording and record all my own stuff in addition to the music of others. I love experimental techniques (like playing tracks backwards and playing around with different microphone placement techniques, like mid-side, etc.) and DIY recording projects; the albums I release myself reflect that - everything from analog cassette 4-track recordings to makeshift 16-track digital to my most recent lo-fi 24-track digital adventures. You can find previous releases of mine at www.CDBaby.com
I've worked on a new project for over 3 years that started out as a bedroom recording and moved to a more "intentional" recording space: Yarner Recording Studio . The studio is part of an arts collective and I work there in a modest space, using a Tascam 2488 digital workstation and a decent selection of microphones (and an LA-610 tube preamp/compressor record channel).

I took a hiatus from performing 4-years ago because being an artist in your bones is sometimes a costly recipe for internal disaster. I have since grabbed my bootstraps with giant fists and hit the stage again in May 2007 and toured the East Coast with my band The Cue for 3 weeks in October 2007. More recording and performing is in the works.

I have a tiny record label called Yarner Records . In addition to my own music, I've been recording, producing and performing on songs by my good friend Jennie Gundersen and her band Airport Boulevard . Their 8-song EP "Asleep With the TV On" was released on October 23, 2007.My new CD "The Ghostly Apple Tree" was released September 25, 2007 (12 songs). As I write 1 month later, there are only 9 copies left of the CD at www.cdbaby.com/all/yarnerrecords I toured the East Coast on a route between Boston, MA and Athens, GA with my band The Cue; it was the best time of my life!! You can read a personal blog about my experience planning to tour at: http://dineendawn.blogspot.com
Stay tuned, I'll do the same! - dd

the live band
Dawn Dineen & The Cue is:

*yes there a lot of Johns in my band*

Influences:

Musical artists that have likely influenced the way the new CD is sounding:
Thomas Dolby, Tom Tom Club, Ida, The The, Peter Murphy, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Steve Miller Band, Jenny Toomey and Missy Elliott?

Other random music that infiltrates my DNA on a current or on-going basis:
Feist, Steve Tibbetts, Kaki King, März, Suzanne Vega, Poe, David Sylvian, Imogen Heap, Sarah Harmer, The B-52's, Soul Coughing, Death Cab For Cutie, Tanita Tikaram, Talking Heads, The Smithereens, Silversun Pickups, Hope For A Goldensummer, Vienna Teng, Peter Gabriel, Neil Young, Me'Shell NdegeOcello, Eurythmics, Fleetwood Mac, David Gray, The Beatles, Cloud Cult, Tortoise, Beekeeper, The Malarkies, Shay Lynch, Five Minutes Before The Leaves, New Roman Empire, Shudder To Think, Shadow Parade.

Sounds Like:

The eclectic little sister of folk-rock with indie-pop cousins running around the house...

Something like an alternate universe where the Deal sisters are joined in The Breeders by Margo Timmins and Aimee Mann and throw a few Talking Heads songs into the set.

Here's what other people have said over the years - post a comment or send me an email and I'll add your groovy opinion to this arbitrary list. ;)
