Biography

"Music is not a privilege, it's a right!" boasts Las Vegas DJ and Producer, DJ Sonic. The self dubbed "Everyday Turntablist", has taken a very underground approach to making music for the masses. "I'm in it because I truly love what I'm doing, I'm in it for me. I make music I like to listen to, and if you dig it too, enjoy, have as much as you want." Certainly influenced by many of the current turntablists, (ie; DJ Shadow, Cut Chemist, and Mix Master Mike), DJ Sonic's distinctive style resonates from many of the classical, funk, and jazz influences he gained over the years while in New Orleans.
Not your average top 40 artist, DJ Sonic was born to a very non traditional musical background in Bologna Italy. "My parents took me to see the Blues Brothers while I was still in the womb, I like to think thats were I get my soul from." His parents were always supportive of his musical drive with traditional musical instruments, but it happened to be that the turntables held the most mystique for him. "Scratching was the first thing that got me, how do they do that? I remember babysitting my little sister, and while she was sleeping I would try scratching on my parents records player. I screwed up so many of their records, and of course they weren't home so thank god."
In 1999, DJ Sonic's life would forever change with his move to New Orleans to attend Tulane University. Within one month of his move to New Orleans, DJ Sonic purchased his first set of Turntables and he became hooked. Within 6 months, DJ Sonic had his first DJ gig at "The Big Bad Wolf," on Bourbon street. "The wolf is the first club I ever worked at, and I'll always have a special place in my heart for the wolf." With the wide array of musicians in the New Orleans, DJ Sonic began to broaden his horizons as Jazz, Blues, and Funk started to become major influences in his music. Having built a Pro-Tools recording studio in his house, DJ Sonic not only recorded and produced for some of the top artists in New Orleans, but began his solo project, "The Everyday Turntablist." Having narrowly escaped Hurricane Katrina, DJ Sonic was forced to leave his home in New Orleans and seek a new place to continue his musical career.
DJ Sonic chose Las Vegas as his next stop. After gaining a residency at The Beach, and working several nightclub gigs around varying hotel/casinos on the Las Vegas strip. DJ Sonic is now the resident DJ at Shadow Bar in Caesars Palace. Still a believer that music is "a right", he gives away numerous mix cd's daily, to the large crowds he DJ's to. "I just want you to listen, broaden your horizons, and realize that there's better stuff out there you haven't listened to yet."
