Above the knee!!!

About Me

Long ago, in a galaxy far, far away...... Someone said "Tune?" "The Chair" was born.Put together for the Orkney Folk Festival in 2004, the Lazy Boys have gone from strength to strength, bringing their high energy "stomp" music to the dance floors of the Northern Isles and Mainland Scotland ever since. Playing high profile support slots, through to their own headline gigs, they have set the floor alight wherever they have appeared. More recently, they have become "Danny" award winners at the 2007 Celtic Connections Festival. This year promises to be a busy one for the boys, with more festival dates on the horizon and their debut album in the pipeline.

My Interests

Music:

Band Website: this is it
Band Members: Gavin Firth.... ....Guitar.... With a truly original style, Gavin has been an inspiration for many other Orcadian guitarists. His imaginative progressions are a huge part of the Lazy Boy sound. Can also be seen.... at the baked bean stand in somerfield. ....Fionn McArthur.... ....Fiddle.... Fionn is an exciting and versitile player. Taught by the great Angus Grant Snr, he is one of the first graduates of the RSAMD traditional music course. Can also be seen.... in mid flight, wielding a shoe! ....Bob Gibbon.... ....Accordion.... Having developed a style owing more to playing with fiddlers than accordionists, Bob has become an integral part of the band who also writes some great tunes. Can also be seen.... Burning pianos on a Sunday. ....Brian Cromarty.... ....Banjo & Vocals.... Originally a guitarist, he is now as likely to be seen with a mandolin or banjo in hand. He is one half of Saltfishforty along with Douglas. Can also be seen.... outside the blacksmith's, listening for the perfect "clank" sound. ....Chas Milne.... ....Bass Guitar.... Another highly respected musician, Chas has played with various Orkney bands over the years, and also plays with local band Hivida. Although, he insists he lives for "the chair" Can also be seen.... in a popular duo, with his pal Dave. ....Erik Laughton.... ....Drums.... His energetic, but controlled drumming keeping the whole sound together. Erik is in high demand as a session musician playing bodhran and other percussion on several highly acclaimed albums. Can also be seen.... in a quiet corner, composing limericks. ....Douglas Montgomery.... ....Fiddle & Mandolin Douglas has played fiddle with many Orkney bands including Saltfishforty and The Smoking Stone Band. His improvisational skills make him stand out as an exceptional musician. Can also be seen.... late at night, hanging about outside the kebab shops of Burray. ....Robbie Thomson.... ....Percussion From a rock background, Robbie has been a drummer with various local Orkney bands. His rythmic skills have been made use of in LBC, playing congas, djembe, shakers and more recently, triangle! Can also be seen.... as a stunt double on the set of the latest Muppet movie!
Influences: lemmy, billy jolly, baked beans, highland park, the A Team, Fred Flintstone, Barny Rubble, piles of rubble, piles of money, pile cream, Jimmy Shand, The Mighty Dons, elastoplast, Orville the duck, Creamola Foam, and Mr McEwan's 70 shilling elixor to name but a few.
Sounds Like: take a riot of fiddles, 2 1/2 stone of accordion, clanky banjo, sprinkle guitar on top and other things - drums and percussion to taste. a bit of bass . go on a bit more.a pinch of salt, half a teaspoon of fun. then mix it all up. and play it loud. lovely.actually, it s probably playing right now, so i don't need to tell you
