I come from the South Western part of Iran.
Over four hundred years ago this place harbored a major trade-route,
run by Portuguese, Dutch, British and Arab slave traders. This south west part of Iran borders the Persian Gulf and so a mix of Persian, Arab and East African cultures found roots. Pearl divers and contracted laborers sought their way to fortune, pirates found a place to trade their goods.
Where I grew up we have a culture with a musical heritage in many ways, Persian, Arabic, African and European culture have intertwined, and so my fascination is really rooted in there.
I remember as a kid, sitting next to my grandmother after lunch, she used to listen to music by Arab stars like Ome Kolsoum... , At Home my parents would listened to music of Motown, Earth Wind & Fire, etc. In the evening I would always go out & play football...
later on my uncle got me listening to jazz/fusion music of the 70`s...
Right now I live in Amsterdam and have done so for over 10 years, I studied drums & percussion at the conservatory. After graduating from there I went to Paris and the Middle East to study African & Arabic root music and drumming.
At the moment I live in the Netherlands, playing music around and doing project in different styles of music such as Jazz/World music/Funk, R&B/ Electronic, also teaching drums & percussion, privately as well as in music schools.
The music you hear is a new project of mine that mixes Eastern, old folkloric Iranian music with the Classic & Jazz tradition of the West.
This project is at the very beginning of its journey,
and we want to work with this concept until a resolve in the ultimate sound, rhythm and melody exists. This music for me is very personal yet universal at the same time.
