About Me

Drummer Mark de Jong was born in 1980 in Rotterdam, Holland. His musical adventure started already at a very young age, and gradually he started playing drums with different local bands. Later on he studied, mainly with Lucas van Merwijk, at the Rotterdam Conservatory, from which he graduated in 2004, and where he developed himself as a versatile player feeling comfortable in many different musical settings and styles. Allthough, he had always felt enormously attracted to Latin American music and culture, and through the years Mark has really especialised himself in playing this music. In 2003 he studied in Havana, Cuba with Giraldo Piloto, Ramses Rodriguez and Pepe Espinosa. In 2004 he studied in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil with Marcio Bahia and Robertinho Silva.Mark played and recorded with numerous bands and musicians, amongst them are Conjunto Irawo, Corazon Ardiente, Nueva Manteca, Ramon Valle, Josee Koning, Roots United, Bernie's Lounge, Denise Jannah, Crianzas, Latineo, Goiabada, Panchito, Joao Falcato, Ben van den Dungen, Molote, Dirindi, Ana Beck and many others. He played and toured internationally in Oman, France, Monaco, Brazil, Cuba, Domincan Republic, Dominica, St Lucia, Isla Margarita, Bonaire, Curacao, Spain, Portugal, Germany.
