About Me

Harvey Wirht was born and raised in Suriname, South America’s multi-cultural paradise. It was there that he started his drum studies at the Suriname Public Music Academy (VMS). During his formative years he became a member of the VMS symphony orchestra directed by the Legendary Eddey Snijders, playing tympani, drums and percussion. After paying his dues Harvey was offered and seized the opportunity to study at the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. He studied under John Ramsey, Joe Hunt, the late Alan Dawson and “drum guru” Lenny Nelson. Massachussets presented Harvey with great musical opportunities such as recording with John Tchicai whose CD “ Life overflowing” was awarded The Boston Music Award for best jazz recording, touring with the Hiro Honshuku’s big band in Kyoto Japan and the Either Orchestra’s tour and live recording in Ethiopia, Africa.His quest to explore the rhythms of mother earth, has lead him to play with a variety of artists such as; Eddy Snijders ( Father of modern kaseko music ), Eddey Muringen, Juan Navia, Walter Muringen, Phil Wilson, Teresa Ines, Joanne Brackeen, Makanda Ken McIntyre, Alex Alviar, Rebecca Paris, Dan Moretti, Victor Mendoza, Eric Wainaina, Martino Atangana, Mamadu Ba, Russ Gershon, Fareed Haque, Ron Reid, Herman Snijders, Russ Gershon, Orville Right, Ronald Snijders, David Happy Williams, PJ Adamson, Rahul Roy, Winnie Dhalgren, Kadima Tsibango, Chris Berry, Laura Andel, Wendy John, Dawna Hammers, Leonardo Cioglia, Izzy Rosen, Gilad Barkan, John Benitez, Vincent Henar, ATN Stadwijck, Pablo Nahar, Herman Snijders, Leonardo Cioglia, Juancho Herrera, Habib Faye, Aquiles Bais, Francis Jacob, Mimi Rabson, Maria Schneider, Daniel Day, Hassan Hakmoun, Mamiko Watanabe, Nepo Soteri, Azouhouny Adhou, Malika Zarra, Gino Sitson, Fareed Haque, Ronald Sneiders , Chihiro Yamanaka, Patrick Sedock, Francis M’Bappe, David Murray, Vincent Henar, Elio Alves, Bala Tounkara, Toumani Diabate,and Babatunde Olatunji, Ziggy Marley.Wirht is currently on a world tour with the Benin born Grammy Award winner Angelique Kidjo and has appeared on Jay Leno’s Tonight Show, the CBS Early Morning Show, Live Earth South Africa, the Late Show with David Letterman and the NAACP Awards.
