About Me
Andreas Brade was born and raised in Waiblingen, Germany. Music played an important part in his family and was an integral part of his childhood. Andreas began drum lessons at the age of twelve at the local music school. As a teenager, he played the drums in school bands, rock and funk bands, as well as in his father's orchestra.At the age of 18, Andreas decided to pursue his musical career seriously and studied privately with instructors Thomas Keltsch and Michael Kersting; he also enrolled in harmony studies at "Studien Kreis für Musik" in Stuttgart.Andreas moved to Boston to enroll in a four-year program in Jazz Performance on drumset at Berklee College of Music. During this time, he was exposed to many different world music rhythms, which strongly influenced his today's playing style. In 2006 Andreas received his masters in Modern American Music from Longy School of Music in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In those years Andreas had the great opportunity to study with teachers such as Jamey Haddad, Bob Gullotti, Charlie Barnacos, Marko Djordjevic, Joe Hunt, Jon Hazilla, Steve Wilkes and many more. He is blessed to be mentored and thaught by drumguru Lenny Nelson the 25th.Andreas Brade performed with different artists in World Music, Jazz and Funk including world beat bands Balla Tounkara, Atlas Soul, Wildest Dreams, The Zamir Chorale as well as Haitian recording artist Gifrants and the JCA. He has performed at both international and national jazz festivals including the Montreal Jazz Festival, International Festival in Lafayette, and the Boston Globe Jazz Festival. He has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., Boston Symphony Hall, the "Blue Note" Jazz Club, as well as at musical venues in Houston, Florida and Bethlehem, PA. He performs regularly at clubs and festivals in the North East of the United States.Andreas has performed on several recordings. Throughout the years, four of the groups he has performed with were nominated for a Boston Music Award in the world music category. Some recordings won different awards such as the National Independent Music Award in 2003 and 2006.Andreas is currently the chair of the Percussion Department at the Community Music Center in Boston, teaches at the Long Island Conservatory and is a member of VicFirth educational team. He has taught at Berklee College of Music, the South Shore Conservatory, the Boston Arts Academy and worked as an accompanist for many dance companies such as the Alvin Ailey, Boston Ballet, Mark Morris, and the Boston Conservatory.In 2000 Andreas received the Marilla MacDill Award for excellence in teaching and community service.
