About Me

I've been blessed with an array of musical experiences and from having shared with wonderful musicians that I feel I'm another grain of sand in this infinite ocean of sound and feeling.I play bass, sing, compose and arrange. I've been playing for over 20 years from Rock to Afro Cuban Folklore, from Salsa to Acid Jazz and Funk, from Jazz to Urban Ecuadorian Folklore, experimenting and getting turned on by the great music this world has to offer. Born in Quito Ecuador and currently bouncing from Boston to New York to Ecuador. I've had the honor of working with some big names and with many others who should be, trying always to find my own voice and place in the world. I've recorded with many people and produced two albums of my own work, not that I don't have more material but you know how it is..."Immigrant Blues" includes 10 original compositions and one arrangement, performed with my band MANGO BLUE, a mix of AfroLatin roots with some Funk, Jazz and R&B. "EQUATORIAL" features 12 original compositions and one arrangement of music inspired in traditional Ecuadorian music, produced by Alain Mallet. Working towards recording some more of my original music in 2007 and playing as much as I can.I recently created a score for a feature-length my brother Miguel Alvear has produced called "Blak Mama", a crazy, fantastic, irreverent dream sequence with extravagant characters and beautiful imagery, inspired in the Ecuadorian traditional celebration of "La Mama Negra" The film should be released in the Fall of 08.Also, recently embarked in a collaborative project called I-LEVEL, a Dub/Latin/Reggae cocktail for which we are finalizing our first recording. Tracks will be available soon.
