About Me

The Vince is a multi national, multi ligual, singer/songwriter infatuated and influenced by a multiple of musical styles, such as African Highlife, Bossa Nova, Blues and Renaissance.
Born in the Netherlands to a Congolees papa and a Dutch jewish mama, The Vince spent his entire childhood and adolescence in fun joy and tears in the state of Israel
(Near Palestine, Holy Land for some),
before being banished to the low lands of the Netherlands
(Near Germany, Amsterdam for some), at the age of 17.
In between living in different continets, different languages and different cultures,
The Vince absorbed a whole lot of music through the years, with the aid of a GUITAR,
to the great delight of his afro curly hair.
And thus, tiny little bits and fragments of funny songs began to emerge over the years, time and its theories over relativity.
These funny songs needed to be recorded somehow, to the great dismay of Vince's bank account.
So after quite a lenghly financial, personal and musical struggle, a little disc was created named: Cooshi/The Hetaira (=Negro in Hebrew/Old Greek for 'Call Girl')) which was to be The Vince's first born little musical baby.
So here are a few songs from that disc which made it into Vincent van Hessen's multi-coloured myspace URL.
Songs which will hopefully make you live happily ever after!! And if not so; maybe, just maybe;
Give you a little tickle of joy.
So sit back and Enjoy.
Song synopsis:
TODAY IS THE VERY FIRST DAY OF THE REST OF YOUR LIFE:
Imagine: You are a spirit floating through the various dimensions of the cosmos,
Time nor flesh is obstructing your lightspeed movements, when suddenly an angel descends upon you and prepares you for yet another life-time on planet earth as a humanbeing.
This angel might sing a song which might sound a little bit like this one, for it is said that angels speak and communicate in the tongue of music.
POP CITY NUMBER 12:
The Hague is a city in the Netherlands,
It's kind of a bleak city, mainly in winter times when nothing ever goes on, except for a few jam sessions and an occasional party here and there.
Due to those few sessions and the absolute boredom that occasionaly sweeps in through The Hague,
a few local bands made it "BIG" in the Netherlands and thus The Hague got the nickname of :"Beat city number 1"
The nickname did sound a little bit megalomaniac, so some time later a local radio DJ nicknamed The Hague as "Pop city number 12", which did sound slightly more modest.
This song is a 12 bar Blues about The Hague with fragments and descriptions of every day life, in it.
Appropriately for a Blues tune, the song begins with the phrase:
"I WOKE UP IN THE MORNING..."
THE SINGING ANGEL:
This song is in a sense, a scene that takes place in Amsterdam's Rijks Museum:
A person, visiting Amsterdam, stoned out of his head, encounters a Rembrandt canvas portraying an angel.
This person has this notion, that the angel in the canvas is trying to tell him something...
But what??
BLACK LADY WITH BLUE EYES:
This song is about a well familiar sensation: Heartbreak and seperation.
The scene is a conversation between two friends, in which one recommends the other, to call his ex and tell her how confused he feels.
The black lady with blue eyes is a euphemism for a lady who was actually pale skinned with beautiful green eyes.
The Vince writes songs, which are laid in a story frame, a scene or just a reported conversation.
Something like: "Once upon a time, or maybe twice, there was a handsome prince named The Little..."
...and so my dear friends, we have come to the end of the synopsis.
Let us all live, happily ever after.
