About Me

Désirée Wattelet is quickly being recognized as a promising young soprano whose impressive young voice is presenting a unique mark upon several operatic stages. Her concert credits include Guest Artist appearances for the Wednesday Morning Music Club, The Austin Lyric Opera Guild, The Austin Women’s Society, The University of Texas Performing Arts Center Spring Director's Dinner, The Aurora Borealis Festival in Minocqua, WI, Musical Bridges Across the World in San Antonio, TX, The Austin Chamber Music Festival and an Alumni Concert for Mu Phi Epsilon. A perennial contest winner, Miss Wattelet was a 2005 & 2006 Regional Semi-finalist/District Winner of the Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions - Southwest Region, an Encouragement Award Winner at the Orpheus National Music Competition for Vocalists, Middle TN Choral Society and 3rd Place Winner in both the Fielder Grant for Vocal Career Advancement and Laureen Butler Vocal Competition, El Paso Opera.Wisconsin native Désirée Wattelet completed her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Wisconsin - Stevens Point, where she received the prestigious Eunice De Baker and Susan B. Coleman Music Scholarships. She then moved directly into her masters program at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX and upon completion of her studies, the Music Department and Friends of the Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University awarded her their most prestigious prize, the President’s Award and made her the Vocal Recitalist of the Year. Désirée completed her doctoral studies at the University of Texas at Austin and was given the Outstanding Achievement Award at the Student Awards Convocation.
