About Me

We do what we do for you with the help of friends who contribute to the running costs associated with Downunda Thunda Radio. Even $2 adds up and helps to cover server fees and costs. (Nana and Bill are tapped out!)
"Sure, I can toss $2 your way!
"Hey, Looks like I can spare $5!"
"What the heck, Downunda Thunda Radio is worth the $10!"
We Thank You!

The True Roots of Australian Music comes from the roots of the Artists themselves. It comes from the Land, the Sea, from countries all over the globe, as do the People of Australia. The Roots of Australian Music start with the combined sounds of the first Australians with the music brought to these shores by the first sailors and convicts. It is added to by the talent of every person who has come to these shores, carrying with them, along with their hopes and dreams of a new life, the music with which they grew up, rich in it's own sounds and beats. With the help of the Internet Artists have come to know and experience music from all over the world, and to collaborate to create music that is a blending of many different styles.
In my travels around MySpace I have discovered Australian Groups who play Latin, Reggae, Ska, Irish, German, Greek, Inca, AfroBeat, Samba, New Orleans Jazz, Island, Japanese and Chinese Traditional and pop, Australian Indigenous, ..... I could go on forever! And there are so many blends! I don't even know where to start to describe the awesome sounds these very talented musos are producing!
So I am going to try and share this Multiculturalism with you by re-creating this profile to reflect the diversity of music that falls under the Category of "Roots" Music and where it comes from. This profile will, I hope, represent the Beauty, through music, of the Multicultural Country We Live in. Here, among the tremendous pool of Musical Talent that populates this country, is the ultimate proof that we CAN all live together in "Harmony".
The Main DTR Profile will continue to showcase a diverse range of Genre. This profile will also showcase a very diverse range of Genre, but with emphasis on a "World Beat" flavour, while remaining within the Australian (and New Zealand) Independent Artists objective of Downunda Thunda Radio .
In a world gone mad over war and death the Musicians of Australia show a face of Australia that outshines the face put forward by our leaders, the media and the bigoted fanatics that would have Australians fear each other. Music is the Language of the World. Through it we learn about other cultures, lifestyles, feelings, pain and joy. Music has the power to stop wars, heal souls, bridge divides, inspire great deeds, drive away madness and fear, heal broken bodies and minds, sooth an infant to sleep or cause feet to move of their own accord. Music has the Power to Create Love and Understanding where there was Hatred and Distrust. Music transcends Political Borders, Race, Creed or Class. Music is the Soul of Human Kind.
Australia is a Land of Many Colours woven together into a Tapestry of Wonderious Beauty by the Music of Australian Independent Artists. They Weave their music into the pattern of Life, drawing together all manner of people to listen and to add to the musical intricacy of a tapestry that will never be completed.
I invite all Australian Independent Artists to contribute to the mix of music. You or at least one primary member of your band must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident. If you are an Australian Citizen living abroad, and you are a Primary member of a band in that country, you may also be included, especially if your band or you perform "Traditional" Music of the country in which you reside. Please go here to find out how to submit your music. .
