I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

I am a freelance artist and writer. I draw and paint both hyper-realistic and cartoon style, and if you had to pigeon-hole me into a specific art style, it would be pin-up art. I love the way women look (ALL women are beautiful, not just those who fit what the media tells us is beautiful) and they are my favorite subjects... and if you think that isn't very PC, well, tough. I refuse to deny my feelings or desires as a man just to fit someone else's agenda as to what is politically correct and what isn't.
I have recently begun doing tattoo design, and while I actually have no tattoos personally, I will as soon as I can come up with something I like.
I have no piercings... I have nothing against piercings on others, but I'm one of those people who plans to leave the world with the same number of holes I had in me when I got here.
I have Doctorates in Philosophy and Metaphysics (hard to believe, isn't it!) I am in a wonderful relationship with a wonderful woman who loves me for what I am, not what she wants me to be.
I live in Wyoming, Michigan... where the elephants go to die, with a snake named Darvocet.

If you want to be my friend...

Understand that I check all sites before adding anyone, although I am pretty free and easy going. If you are a spammer, well, you know the drill. If you have zero friends, or just have "Tom", there is very little chance that I'll add you. And I always check pictures.

If I have asked YOU to be a friend...

It is because you were recommended by another friend, or I saw you on another friends site, and something about your site triggered an interest. If you are an artist or photographer, it is because I like your work. If you are a famous person or a band, ditto. It may be that you share some of my interests, it may be that you had a clever name, whatever. SOMETHING sparked an interest. I PROMISE you that I don't spam, and I don't post bulletins asking you to add or vote for friends of mine, or send money to "help" someone or something... If you get a bulletin it will most likely be to announce some new artwork or a new blog, period.

A word about comments...

I have to approve all comments that go on my page. I usually will approve anything you send, as long as it isn't too overly long.

The thing is to find a truth which is true for me, to find the idea for which I can live and die.– Kierkegaard, Søren, Journals (1849)

My Interests

Drawing, Painting, Writing, becoming the worlds greatest Photoshop expert... or at least good at it, Japanese language and culture, Martial Arts (although I can't do a lot with them right now), Movie and TV props.

I'd like to meet:

Harumi Nemoto, Aki Hoshino, Yoko Matsugane, Anita Thompson, Bettie Page, Alton Brown, Frank Frazetta, Mike Nelson (from MST3K, not Sea Hunt), Christina Ricci and a whole lot of other people.

People I'd Like to Have Met: Hunter S. Thompson, Janice Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Buster Keaton, Søren Kierkegaard (but that would be absurd... now who out there got THAT joke?), Charlie Chaplin, Orson Welles, George Burns, Mike Nelson (from Sea Hunt, not MST3K*)... and a whole lot of other people!

*Yes, I know his real name was Lloyd Bridges, but that would have killed the joke, wouldn't it? God, get off my back!

And I want to thank Samantha for introducing me to the Cyanide and Happiness webcomic!

Music:

Blues, especially classic blues.
I like classical, some Folk, music of the 50's, 60's, 70's (EXCEPT DISCO!!! UGG!), some of the 80's. Been a big Weird Al fan from the beginning. Movie and television soundtracks, anime music and Japanese Pop. There is even some Country and Rap that I can listen to without wanting to put a bullet through my head!

Movies:

2001: A Space Odyssey, The 7 Faces of Dr. Lao, Metropolis, Most Japanese giant monster films (especially Godzilla), The Blind Swordsman Zatoichi series (both the movies and television series), Plan 9 from Outer Space (a true classic in every bad way), ALL the old Universal Horror movies, The Trouble with Angels.

Television:

Don't watch a lot of television, but I tend to keep the TV set on the History or Science Channels. I like Anime in general, although Anime is like Porn... there is a hell of a lot of it out there and most of it is crap.
I can say without a doubt that my favorite television show of all time is

Mystery Science Theater 3000

I'm even geeky enough to own a couple original props from MST3K.

Some, but by no means all, of my favorites, in no particular order, are:Star Trek (all versions)Ranma 1/2 (Anime)The Red Green ShowThe Twilight ZoneLost In SpaceAttack of the Killer Tomatoes Cartoon SeriesScrubsGood Eats

I'll add more later.

Books:

I read everything! I have degrees in Philosophy and Metaphysics, so I read a lot of hi-brow crazy stuff. But I also like to read fantasy, hard and soft Sci/fi, the Destroyer series, the Harry Potter series, Steven King, Ray Bradbury, Arthur C. Clark, Larry Niven, Wayne Dyer, and lots of others. Hunter S. Thompson is one of my heroes... I've read damn near every word he's written! Just finished "Gonzo"... I think it's nice when your hero's have flaws.

Heroes:

Hunter S. Thompson, Dr. Wayne Dyer, Olivia De Berardinis, Alton Brown, Wonder Woman, Batgirl, Dave Nestler, Jon Hul, Frank Frazetta and I love Elvira, Mistress of the Dark for a couple reasons...
