The concept of a group of musicians specializing in a certain genre of music is nothing new. There are thousands of jazz bands, country bands, 60's bands and on and on. Selling the concept of music from sci-fi / monster movies combined with spy, surf and a strong foundation in 1950's exotica is a totally different thing. Not so easy to explain to people in a short breath! But that is exactly what the Moon-Rays have done. Influenced by everything from James Bond to Vampira, their music is spooky, it's hip, it's danceable, but most of all it is COOL !They must not be the only ones to think so, because one of Chicago's top three rock stations WXRT picked Thrills and Chills as best instrumental release for 2002, They were picked again in 2004 for the Ghouls Go West. ..not bad for a spook band. The Moon Rays were born of a concept brought on by the recording of the theme from WGN's Creature Features TV show. About 6 months later they were approached to do a full length cd by the same studio. The decision then was to do a mixture of spy-surf with a Halloween overtone to it. We were all fans of the Man from UNCLE, Mission Impossible and such, as well as the "Ventures In Space" album and wanted to do something that had that same kind of feel to it but with a little more of a Mancini edge. We were also influnced by some of the great novelty records that came out in the late 50's early 60's. It was sort of the hey-day for spooky sounding rock music. Albums like "Spike Jones in Hi-Fi", "Monster Rally", "Shock Music in Stereo" were great albums to listen to with the lights out. When we wrote 1313 Mockingbird Lane I had that "old school" feel in mind, our homage to the Munsters and all those great Captain Co. albums of the 60's. Moon-Rays music has been heard on radio stations from NY to California, Belgium, Australia, Russia and beyond. The list of movies that has featured the Moon-Rays music continues to grow also as they have had songs featured in "DR. HORRORS EROTIC HOUSE OF IDIOTS", "AMERICAN SCARY", the upcoming "GHOST IN A TEENY BIKINI" and now have just written the title track to the upcoming film "THE GHASTLY LOVES OF JOHNNY X!" They are truely America's "Spookiest" Hipsters
