Now...please pay extra attention to the middle through the end of this video..it is a little long but I am HOPING, and I certainly guarantee that it will CHANGE your life forever if you watch this in it entirety.Contrary to popular belief, what you don’t know could hurt you, meaning that if we want to protect this planet, its inhabitants and future generations from destruction, we need to be aware of the impact our lifestyles have on the environment - and actually do something about it. The mind-boggling numbers are there. The underlying problem is that we live in a material world, where ever increasing numbers of mobile phones, laptops, cars and electronic gadgets are being manufactured around the globe. Consumer electronics make up 40 per cent of the lead found in landfills. And that’s not including the “chemical world” we’ve created. Based on World Wildlife Fund reports, in the last 50 years 80,000 NEW CHEMICALS have been formulated for everything we use – from cosmetics and baby bottles to furniture, electronic gadgets, and of course the "safe" cleaning products we are told to use....we are bombarded with commercials everyday telling us, reassuring us, that these cleaning products are safe for our children....that a sterile environment is best for them, necessary, but they don't leak how harmful they truly are to our health and well being.
Asthma, for instance, has risen 300% since the 1980's, and chronic fatigue syndrome is a common complaint among millions of people today. Infertility has skyrocketed, men's sperm counts have dropped by 50% since the 1930's, endiometriosis has risen into the millions since the 1930's as well. In 1934 only 21 cases of endometriosis were known in the U.S. alone, now it's over 5 million. Alarmingly, miscarriage rates have climbed every year. Three of these statistics, in particular, are very personal to me because, not only do I have a child that suffers from terrible asthma, I also suffer from endometriosis, and have gone through multiple miscarriages.
One particular chemical known as alkylphenol, found in many industrial and household detergents,are known hormone disrupters. This means they actually act like hormones and can change behavior, mood, development and other bodily functions regulated by hormones. The delicate balance of chemicals our body natuarally produces and needs to function properly can go astray by toxic chemicals.
Let's talk about cancer for a moment, I am willing to bet that nearly every person that reads this has known someone who has suffered from this horrible disease. Watching a person you love go throught the painful agony of this illness is heart-wrenching. Cancer rates continue to grow at an alarming rate every year! Breast cancer and prostate cancer have doubled in the past 50 years, testicular cancer has tripled during the same period!...One in five persons will die of cancer in the U.S. The majority of cancer cases are due to environmental factors...most experts agree that as many as 90% of all cancers can be avoided by making certain lifestyle changes. Other factors certainly include diet, sleep, etc., however, by changing the chemicals we inhale and allow contact with our bodies, by switching to safer products, WE can make a difference.(By being informed consumers). The Cancer Institute has a list of 20 known carcinogens(cancer causing agents) and over 2200 chemicals that are probable carcinogens, many of these chemicals are found in the cleaners and personal care products we use everyday...we purchase them at our local grocery stores, our friends use them, we trust them. Each year 6500 children are diagnosed with cancer in the U.S. alone, it remains the leading cause of death for children over the age of 5. The tragedy is that only 20% of these cases is caused by genetics! To see an innocent child fall victim to this disease is diplorable.
The doctors tend to put the blame on us for these diseases....poor diet, bad lifestyle, not enough exercise, genes, etc....but the toxins that we are surrounded by everyday account for many of these senseless illness's....and you can help prevent them, by becoming informed as to what products carry the toxins that may cause cancer and other health issues, if you have the knowledge, you can make the changes...and hopefully prevent your children and your loved one's from suffering. You can enable them to lead fuller, happier lives....with more energy, better immune system functioning, and the best part: more time to spend with them on this beautiful planet.
We need to start purchasing more ecologically friendly products. Natural, non-toxic alternatives are available, they are just as effective as the grocery store brands, and, you can take comfort in knowing that they are safe for ourselves, our children, our pets, and the environment.
Consumer Beware!
When we pick up a product at the grocery store, most of us like to think we are getting something that has been tested and proven to be safe. After all, we have laws to protect our health and safety, don't we? Actually the government has very limited power to regulate manufacturers, or require testing of their products. Here are some disturbing facts:
~Products that kill 50% of lab animals through ingestion and inhalation can still receive the federal regulatory designation "non-toxic".
~Of 17,000 household chemicals only about 5000, or approximately 30%, have been adequately tested and less than 10% have been tested on the nervous system.
~No law requires manufactures to list the exact ingredients on the package label...trade secrets for the brands we buy protect them from disclosing all of the ingredients.
Also:
"Personal care products" refers to just about anything we use to clean our bodies or make ourselves look or smell good. The closest thing to a regulatory agency for the personal care industry is the Food and Drug Administration(FDA), and their power is very limited. Here are more unsettling facts regarding personal care products:
~The FDA cannot regulate a personal care product until after it is released into the marketplace.
~Neither personal care products nor their ingredients are reviewed or approved before they are sold to the public.
~The FDA cannot require companies to do safety testing on their personal care products before they are sold to the public.
~The FDA cannot require recalls of harmful personal care products from the marketplace.
Happily there is a simple solution to the problem presented here.....some conscientious companies now offer household products that are safer and more natural. Most of these people-friendly and environmentally sensitive products work just as well or better than grocery store brands, and in many cases actually cost less. So there's really no reason to risk your health, or the health of your loved ones any longer!!
*~***ONE COMMON INGREDIENT:
FORMALDEHYDE is used frequently in both cleaning and personal care products because it is a CHEAP preservative. The following information is taken form a Material Safety Data Sheet(MSDS) which, by law, must be supplied by anyone who uses any chemical products in the workplace. The MSDS for formaldehyde warns:"Suspected carcinogen(cancer causing agent), May be fatal if swallowed, or absorbed, through skin; causes burns, inhalation can cause spasms, edema, of the larynx and bronchi, and chemical pneumonitis, extremely destructive to tissue of the mucous membrane."
All these symptoms and more are caused by formaldehyde. Yet manufacturers can put formaldehyde in shampoo and not list it as an ingredient!!!. You will be shocked to know that formaldehyde is a common ingredient in baby shampoo, bubble bath, deodorants, perfume, cologne, hair dye, mouthwash, toothpaste, hair spray, and many other personal care items. If formaldehyde is a suspected carcinogen, and if all cancers start from the abnormal growth of one cell, then why would you allow any amount into your body or your children's body??
Is your home a healthy one?.....right now, it's probably not as healthy as it could be......
