About Me

Francesco Turrisi was born in Turin, Italy. He studied music at the Royal Conservatory in The Hague Netherlands where he obtained a Bachelor and a Masters degree in Jazz Piano. While being a jazz student he researched also improvisation and basso continuo in early baroque keyboard music. Later he studied piano accordion and many different percussion instruments from the Middle East and the Mediterranean area. Since 2006 he lives in Dublin, Ireland where he’s very active as a performer and as a teacher. - Jazz collaborations include artists such as Dave Liebman, Jean Toussaint, Gianluigi Trovesi, Gabriele Mirabassi, Fay Claeesen, Maria Pia de Vito, John Ruocco, Eric Ineke etc… - Early music collaborations: Ensemble "L’Arpeggiata", The King’s Singers, Veronique Gens, Dominique Visse, Philippe Jaroussky, Vittorio Ghielmi, Marco Beasley, Marco Ambrosini etc… - World Music collaborations: Pepe el Habichuela, Lucilla Galeazzi, Bijan Chemirani, Marcello Vitale, Roman Bunka, Mihaly Borbely, Ens. Myriada, Patricio Hidalgo, Andrea Piccioni etc… Since his arrival in Ireland he has played with Ronan Guilfoyle, Michael Buckley, Sean Carpio, Brendan Doyle, Mike Nielsen, Dorothy Murphy, Maria Tecce etc… He is also a member of Balkan influenced group Yurodny and the founder of Arabic Jazz group Tarab. Influences: I am a very omnivorous musician. I am influenced by almost every type of music I have a chance to listen to. Main influences are Jazz, 17th century Italian music, traditional music from southern Italy, Arabic classical music, Turkish music, Persian classical music, North & South Indian classical music, Samba, Choro etc…
