Hello .. and a very warm welcome to our brand new Myspace page! Now that you're here, read on to find out a little more about The King's Singers.
"Still unmatched for their musicality and sheer ability to entertain" (The London Times), The King's Singers have for nearly 40 years been touring the globe providing the best in a cappella entertainment to thousands of people every year. Since our foundation in 1968 at King's College, Cambridge, the group has gone from strength to strength, based on the tried and tested formula of singing everything from renaissance masterpieces by composers such as William Byrd and Giovanni di Palestrina, to contemporary commissions from modern-day geniuses such as Gyorgi Ligeti and Peter Maxwell-Davies .. and doing it all with that same commitment to blend, intonation and colour for which the group is justifiably famous.
In the early days, The King's Singers were pioneers in the field of Close Harmony, and ever since then we have been fine-tuning the balance, blend and foundation of our six all-male voices to provide rich harmonies and full chords both in our classical repertoire and in our arrangements of pop and jazz songs, from Billy Joel and The Beatles to Queen and U2, pulling in some inspiration from the likes of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn on the way! At the time, few other groups were doing anything like this, and it is this wonderful foundation that has supported The King's Singers long and varied career to this day.
Education is an extremely important part of the Kings Singers work, and we are often to be found giving masterclasses or workshops to children or adults of all ages. Above all, we seek to encourage the enthusiasm of anyone who loves to sing, and try to help them to retain that enjoyment while taking their performances from good to brilliant!
But above all, The Kings Singers are at their best on stage, performing to their loyal fans (and making some new ones along the way!). We hope very much to see you at one of our concerts soon. Check out our website at www.kingssingers.com for more information about the group, its history, FAQs and our latest news on recordings, our sheet music publications, and upcoming tours.
