The Philharmonia Orchestra is one of the worlds great orchestras. Resident in the Royal Festival Hall, London, the Orchestra also travels the UK and the World giving almost 200 concerts a year.
The Orchestra was founded in 1945, primarily as a recording orchestra and today we recorded for films, TV and most recently the last two Harry Potter games. In the last two years the Orchestra have been shortlisted for three BT Digital Music Awards, and in 2005 the Orchestra presented both the first ever fully interactive webcast and the first podcast by a UK orchestra.
Our website below contains details of how we're hoping to share our music - you can watch concerts online, download our FREE sample library for use in your music, send us your music and hear it played, find out about all the instruments and much more.
YOUR MUSIC : OUR ORCHESTRA : ABBEY ROAD STUDIOS
At the Philharmonia Orchestra, we recently joined up with BT to start a competition called the Groove Search, which aimed to find the next must-have grooves.
The grooves were judged by a panel of musical industry experts, including soul singer Nate James (see http://www.myspace.com/thenatejames) and jazz pianist Zoe Rahman (https://www.myspace.com/zoerahman). The 20 competition winners (aged from 8 to 40-something) recently had their grooves orchestrated and recorded at Abbey Road studios in London.
We had a range of styles from latino funk to epic film music, a couple of which you'll be hearing each week on our page. If you want to hear all the grooves and have a go at remixing them on our new online sample sequencer (available soon), visit our website at www.philharmonia.co.uk/thesoundexchange.
