About Me

ProfileDanish born Anne Aaen has a reputation for excellent musicianship and has been acclaimed as the ..soprano with the golden voice.. in both new music and the standard repertoire. After attending specialist music schools from the age of nine she went on to study for five years at the Royal Academy of Music in Copenhagen. She is still a part time member of the Danish National Radio Choir but solo work now plays an increasingly large role in her performing life. She is a member of the Danish Opera Quartet and a leading member of a new baroque quartet featuring Monica Westheimer (cembalo) and Mogens Rasmussen (viola da gamba) and performs frequently as a concert soloist all over Denmark.
In 2007 she took the initiative to form her own Trio featuring some of Denmark’s leading specialist in Baroque music , they will be performing both the old repertoire and new written compositions commissioned for this constellation of Soprano , Cembalo and oboe , some of the most hauntingly beautiful music is written for this constellation by composers such as Bach , Vivaldi and Telemann , the group aim to spice up the repertoire with contemporary composers from all over the world contributing to this repertoire with new impute especially written for ..The Baroque Trio .. . Recently she commissioned works from overseas composers, most notably Fabrizio Festa (Italy), Clive Cockburn (New Zealand). In January 2005 she gave a solo concert at the main hall of Danish Radio in Copenhagen which featured the world premiere of MY ICON, a piece written for her by Fabrizio Festa. The press wrote:
“ Festa knows how to write melodic phrases which in the finest way accentuate Anne’s rare quality of sound. Her unique presence and pure, truthful interpretation of the texts gave the audience a rare, beautiful and intimate experience.”

Testimonials:

“ It was one of those experiences one would have wanted an even greater audience to hear. Festa knows how to write melodic phrases which in the finest way accentuate miss Aaens voice’s rare sound quality, and with her unique in the moment presence and pure, truthful interpretation of the texts the audience got a rare beautiful, intimate experience. It must be a great privilege to co work with a modern composer who really understand how to serve the singer, and to write in a tonal language which despite its modern expression still draws on the traditional Italian bel Canto conventions and which make use of cantilene phrases. Something one hears way to seldom in modern vocal music, where the result often sounds, as the composer does not manage to writhe comfortable for the human voice. If only there was written more music in the style of Fabriza Festas songs for soprano and string quartet, there would be guarantied a much bigger audience to concerts with modern compositions “Igor Tomaszewski, The Danish bel canto society.
