HUMAN...1st

"I'm (fill-in nationality), but I'm human...1st."

About Me

I'm a concept.
Behind me is a real person. He's an American. But he's human...first.
TIME TO GROW UP AND EVOLVE. We’re in danger of losing the one thing (besides a 1.3% DNA/genetic difference) that separates us from the rest of the primates on this planet...our humanity. Many factors are contributing to this. None more so than nationalism and misguided or manipulated patriotism. Besides greed (for power or money) and religion, these are the principal reasons for ethnocentrism, racism, war and overall gobal intolerance. Human... 1st is a big fuck you to all of that. As a doctrine, it recognizes the importance, benefits and beauty of cultural heritage and national pride. But it seeks to promote an awareness process through which our common humanity becomes a more important identifier than what color we are or where we were born.
If everyone could internalize this one simple concept - I'm (fill-in nationality), but I'm human...1st. - we'd truly be on our way to creating the type of universal consciousness that could very well save all of our asses, and avoid further harm to our amazing planet in the process.
Human...1st does not propose and is not under the delusion that this switch in self-definition will occur any time soon. It's a seed...a blueprint for awareness to be refined and developed, hopefully with your input. But if we start now, it can be our legacy to tomorrow’s generations.
If you connect w/the above please read the Human...1st Manifesto. It goes into more detail about philosophical and practical applications. This idea has sprung from the overactive mind of a lone, simple human who decided it was time to throw his voice into the mix. Just to see what happens. Just to see, perhaps naively, if he could make a difference while promoting the common good.
Strength comes with numbers. If Human...1st resonates w/you and you'd like to help, please spread the word, because this massive brain called myspace is a perfect vehicle for this idea and others like it to take hold virally. So hopefully, this is just a beginning. It's up to us to invent our own future and to create our own reality.

My Interests

Saving the world.
Human...1st does not mean "we first", as in humans over any other species. That's why we put the elipse in there. It's about claiming our rightful place in the context of the whole, alongside every other form of biological living entity.
Human...1st does not support the idea of one world government. We believe in cultural and national autonomy, blending into a rich global mosaic united by our common humanity.

I'd like to meet:

People who know that their humanity is their most important identifier. People who consider themselves global citizens and are willing to say...

"I'm (fill-in nationality/race/religion), but I'm Human...1st."

Music:

The Human Anthem. It hasn't been created yet, but we intend to do something about that. So for now, Here Come the Warm Jets will do 'cause we just couldn't bring ourselves to put up I'm Only Human by the Human League.

Books:

...and quotes:
"Nationalism is an infantile disease. It is the measles of mankind." - Albert Einstein
"Nationalism is nothing more than an idealistic rationalization for militarism and aggression." - Albert Einstein
"I am not an Athenian or a Greek, but a citizen of the world." - Socrates
"Beware the leader who bangs the drums of war in order to whip the citizenry into a patriotic fervor, for patriotism is indeed a double-edged sword. It both emboldens the blood, just as it narrows the mind.... And when the drums of war have reached a fever pitch and the blood boils with hate and the mind has closed, the leader will have no need in seizing the rights of the citizenry. Rather, the citizenry, infused with fear and blinded with patriotism, will offer up all of their rights unto the leader, and gladly so. How do I know? For this is what I have done. And I am Caesar." - Hoaxed quote attributed to William Shakespeare
"My country is the world, to do good my religion." - Thomas Payne
"The softest things in the world overcome the hardest things in the world." - Lao-Tzu
"An organism at war with itself is doomed." - Karl Sagan
"The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated." - Mahatma Gandhi
"The intuitive mind is a sacred gift and the rational mind a faithful servant. We have created a society that honors the servant and has forgotten the gift." - Albert Einstein
"If success or failure of this planet and of human beings depended on how I am and what I do...how would I be? What would I do?" - R. Buckminster Fuller
"There is no power greater than right action in the present moment." - Vasistha
"The highest path is the hardest road but it's the only way." - Human...1st
"When we realize the importance of our connection to each other, we realize the importance of our connection to all that is." - Human...1st

Heroes:

Methuselah - a bristlecone pine tree in California's White Mountains is the planet's oldest living inhabitant. 4,700 years old+ and counting. Respect.
