At the beginning of the 20th century, Konstantinopel (Istanbul today) was the gateway to the exotic Orient. A melting pot of different cultures and famous personalities from around world. For those traveling to Konstantinopel on the famous Orient Express, the Pera Palas Hotel was built exclusively. It was the meeting place for foreigners and expatriates. A few blocks away, Café Lebon was the gathering place of artists and intellectuals.
Both of these legendary places have survived the past century – only the name of Café Lebon has been changed to Markiz. The Markiz still connects the worlds of the Orient and Western culture, just as it did over 100 years ago.
