Hazzah and Merry Meet! Welcome to all! Do you share one or more of my interests? (See below.) If so, I'd love to hear from you! AND if you actually read all the below as well, I will be very impressed!
PLEASE NOTE: I work 10-12 hour days. I ONLY check this once a week. If you have not heard from me in a while, ping me a message here and there and remind me to do the same in kind, OK? I try to log on here every weekend or at least every ten days or so...
It absolutely AMAZES me how many people are similar to myself. The whole "six degrees of separation" theory is so true! Sometimes I am the only one in a room of people who is a "geek", a "dreamer" and still goes to Ren Fairs, Fairie Festivals and SCA events, Comic and Sci-Fi Conventions, Highland Games (to celebrate my Scottish /Celtic heritage and see gorgeous men in kilts - hey, I can LOOK! hehehehehe), etc. I get silly when I see anything having to do with Star Trek or Star Wars... It is just nice to know that I can come to my myspace page and feel that I am not alone in the world in my personality type! There really are many people out there like myself who still believe in the good in humanity - go figure! :-) In my career I help people find jobs every day in the high tech world, but here I get to meet people who have the same souls as I do - who can share with me their lives and stories of their travels. I lead a very full, very busy life! I never seem to have enough time to do all the things I want to do and I'm always coming up with "projects" to do. Keeping up this page takes about four hours every weekend, but it is worth it!
For those of you who have signed on as my new friends, I thank you with all of my heart. Yes, my page takes a few minutes to load (If you have any tips on how to make it load faster, without having to get rid of my fun graphics, please share because I'm still learning here! Plus, I know it has to do with your own computer, ie: mine at home is has enough memory and loads at lightening speed, but if I was to try to log on at work, it is SLOW, so...) but hopefully it is worth it for you and we can share thoughts, artwork, poetry and philosophical discussions. As long as we stay away from conversations about politics and religion, we should be OK. I will always respect your views - but if you ask me my thoughts on either subject, be prepared for my replies- and I will expect your respect in kind. I'm no wallflower and I have strong opinions!
I've made some pretty terrific friends here, both locally as well as literally all over the planet, which is exciting for me! It is a privilege to have met so many people this way! They enrich my life by staying connected and sending me awesome artwork, etc. when they can. Some of my acquaintances on this myspace phenomenon have dropped off over this past year since I first started this page. Occasionally I still reach out to find new friends, but I feel so overwhelmed with the amount I have right now some times, that I haven't tried to make any new connections lately. And since I feel so blessed to keep the ones I currently have, I am making more of an effort to touch base with many of those whom I haven't heard from in a while. It is just sad knowing that I've missed staying in touch with a few. Had the person written to me and touched base with me as well, we would still be connected. I figure, it's a two way street and I'm only human. I try to be "super woman" a lot. It only makes me tired. *GRIN* However, I understand human nature - this is cyberspace and people come and go in our lives. People are people- and I know that we're all inherently GOOD and have great intentions. I do my best and that's all that I can offer. Enough said.
My interests in life are as follows: DRAGONS, FAERIES, Knights and Maidens, Masks, Celtic Crosses, Castles, Wolves and Romance in any form (I am a hopeless romantic.)... I'm all about getting outside and being surrounded by nature. I love to go on long walks and hike thru the woods and check out scenes that can't be viewed from inside a car. It's one of the reasons why I moved to the Pacific Northwest. I enjoy touring gardens and just basically exploring whenever I can. I get inspired by the full moon, the sky as the sun sets, and the sound of rain as I'm trying to fall asleep at night. It sounds "corny", I know, but I really do love walking on the beach and watching the waves roll in. Let's see, what else? My musical taste is eclectic, as I am into of all types of music from bagpipes and harp to folk to rock to opera to modern rap...
My favorite movie of all time is Camelot (hmmm... what would tip you off? *GRIN*) Other favorite movies/shows: BattleStar Gallactica, StarGate Atlantis, Highlander (Adrian Paul!), Farscape (that *hottie* Ben Browder, paired with Claudia Black), Smallville, Firefly/Serenity, Heroes, The Fifth Element, DragonHeart, Swashbuckler, Serendipity, Sliding Doors ("No one expected the Spanish Inquisition!") Timeline, Message in a Bottle, Excalibur, Phantom of the Opera, ParentTrap, Romancing The Stone, Roxanne, Sleepless in Seattle, The Holy Grail, Somewhere in Time, Man in the Iron Mask, Must Love Dogs, Shakespeare in Love, Romeo and Juliet, and The MATRIX as well as Lord of the Rings and others (there's not enough room to list them all), however, I do NOT like horror. Now, I will watch certain movies like Underworld and Blade and I loved Van Helsing, so I'm not a total wimp! LOL! I don't consider them in the same genre - and I still think Pan's Labyrinth would have been better without the horror aspects, but that is another discussion and I do tend to digress...
As you can see, I love romantic artwork and lean towards anything with a red-haired maiden so I can fantasize myself in that picture *grin*. I like most fantasy art because I am enamored with other people's imagination and artistic capabilities. I have artistic talent- but adore others who have much more than myself...I also hope to one day master the art of stained glass and sculptures. My husband is making basenji sculptures and I am making OOAKS fairies. We haven't sold any on EBAY yet, but maybe one day we'll start our own side business doing that, who knows? And last, but not least, I hope to one day publish my book, which is not yet finished... It's my never ending work in progress, it seems...
Other things I am "in to" are: Costumes and role playing... Kilts, Medieval History, Swords, Renaissance, Poetry, Pirates and Gypsies... Basenji's (the African barkless dogs) - because I have FOUR of them - and Alaskan Huskies – mine is a greyhound husky mix who is aging and going blind, but he is my “wolf” with a black mask and eyes that glow red in the dark ... Yes, I have five dogs right now. They keep me active and fit! Let's see... What else... I gravitate towards anything having to do with heroes and the fight for good against evil, and time travel always catches my notice. Anything having to do with past lives interests me as well, as I feel like I have an old soul in so many ways. Anything that makes me laugh, especially humor that makes me think - Monte Python, comedians like Mike Myers, Adam Sandler and Ellen DeGeneres (they are so silly) and so many others...
I love to read like it's a sport and it is very rare that you will ever find me without a book unless I am working. (I can't name all the authors or stories- way too many to name them all... i.e.: the classics, historical romance, medieval literature, etc.) I think I have read everything Nora Roberts has ever written because so many of them are full of Irish folklore, magic and romance. I also gravitate towards Jude Deveraux's books, ever since she got me hooked on her book, 'Knight In Shining Armor'... I have also read almost every one of Bertrice Small's historical romances... I could read Jane Austen books over and over again... I’ve read almost every book I have been able to get my hands on that concerns King Arthur and the round table and Avalon. I love books and the movies made because of those books like The Three Musketeers, Beowulf, Pride and Prejudice, Sense and Sensibility, The Princess Bride, Robin Hood, Harry Potter, Narnia, Neverland, PeterPan, Miss Potter, Eragon, Count of Monte Christo, etc. Oh, I could go on and on…
Other than the daily stresses of my job (and the challenges there) and the "what have you done for me lately" attitude that permeates much of the world at times, I'm generally very happy with my life and try to remain optimistic for the future. My husband ("toydaddy" because he is very similar to the character from that movie "40 yr. old Virgin" in that he has a huge collection of 70's and 80's toys like Transformers, He-Man, Spiderman, and everything StarWars) and I have separate interests, so our myspace pages are vastly different, but we also have love in common and support each other during life's harder times. He has given me a whole new perspective on comic books and action figures! He keeps me laughing when I am so serious, which is 80% of the time. He values our relationship. He was trapped in a really bad relationship before and had some serious healing to do when he met me, but I really do believe that when faced with insurmountable hardships, one becomes stronger and a better human being. He has given me three great step-children, whom I adore and wish we could see more. He is a good husband, he has become more involved in my interests and he does his best to keep up with me!
I am secure, intelligent, self-sufficient, passionate, proud and a very strong willed woman. I believe in myself and what I have to offer the world, but I also do not see thru "rose colored glasses", as so many people tend to believe "dreamers" do. I'll fight for the rights of others and myself if given provocation. I question a great deal in life, and I don't "go with the flow" or follow blindly like so many people I have met over the years. I am ruled by my own code of ethics and morals, which are very much along the line of the code of chivalry and "harm none". I am feminine without all the fussiness, never pretentious and very "down to earth". One of my brothers, Jeff, would say I am a "tree hugger". But every day is a miracle and we can all make a difference in the world! I also have a soft side, and because I put so much faith in humanity, I can often leave myself vulnerable to those who would take advantage. This is probably why I have always considered myself a Lady and my husband my Knight. Although I do believe that everything happens for a reason, in fate, in destiny and in magic and miracles, I also believe that we make our own ways in life and can change our own paths. I believe in honor and truth and that good will conquer evil! Karma exists. Love always leads the way. My role in life has been a "care taker" and I find strength in knowing that I am needed and loved. My family has now spread out all over the place (Texas, Virginia, California, Oregon, Colorado, North Carolina, Massachusetts and now Germany!), so my friends have become my family lately and mean a great deal to me. Yes, sometimes...
I have a passion for writing as well, as you can tell by this write-up alone! *grin* So, now you've read a long list of what makes me happy and what I'm all about... Thank you for taking time out to get to know me! Write to me some time and tell me about yourself, please - I really am interested! Send to me your favorite artwork and I'll share with you mine or try to send you some I find along the way that I think you might like. Again, thank you for getting to know me!
"The curtain had been lifted, and we had a glimpse into a magic world of romance and pictured poetry, peopled with ghosts of 'ladies dead and lovely knights,' – a twilight world of dark mysterious woodlands, haunted streams, meads of deep green starred with burning flowers, veiled in a dim and mystic light, and stained with low-toned crimson and gold, as if indeed one had gazed through the glass of 'Magic casements opening on the foam Of perilous seas in faerylands forlorn.'"
