The band Guilty method was formed in 1997 with the aim to compose music inspired by crossover rock and alternative rock. The very first formation was voice, drums, bass, guitar and a DJ. The first 2 songs to be recorded were "Locked" and "Gluesplit". In 1998 Mario joined the band. Since then his voice and his personality have become characteristic for the band. In the same year they obtained sixth place in the sixth edition of "Bustock", a famous contest in Italy in which more than 100 groups take part each year.
In 1999 they not only created several original songs, but also got the opportunity to play as concert openers for the Canadian crossover band "Guèrilla"; on tour in Italy and at 3 concerts with "Linea77". This year efforts were aimed at composing and improving the 6 songs to be included on the entirely self-produced EP "INK", released in 2000. This EP was recorded at the "Massive Arts Studios" in Milan by Ivo Grasso and Alberto Cutolo. In the meantime, shortly before recording the album, Pandoro replaced the first drummer and became one of the band"s pillars.
The ever more frequent concerts, which were now given all over Italy, were of course used to promote the album. Positive reviews of "INK" were published in italians magazines like "PSYCHO", "ROCKSOUND" etc. and on Internet sites like "www.metallus.it", "www.movimenta.com" etc. In this period Sem replaces the old bass player.
We have arrived in 2001 and "INK", the title track on the first album with the same name, was included in the compilation from "Radio Lupo Solitario" (one of the most important italian rock radios www.radioluposolitario.it), together with much more important groups on the Italian music scene like Subsonica, Articolo 31, 99posse, Africa Unite etc. Thanks to this the indipendent record company "ABOUT ROCK" in Milan, noticed and contacted the band. More than 1500 copies of "INK" were sold, mainly during the concerts that GM gave all over Italy. The band was forced to take a time-out due to the fact that the two guitarists and the DJ left GM. After months of auditions Ruggio become the new guitarist. The guys participated in many promotions and broadcasts of "Rock Tv" (satellite italian channel in the SKY package). They played with "Extrema", with "Linea 77" during the first edition of the "Italian Nu Metal Fest", with "Prozac+" and "Ritmo Tribale". In May 2002 a new band member arrived: Rob, the violinist who very much has put his mark on GM"s new sound. In September the band entered "RODGERS STUDIOS" in Mantova in order to record the instrumental parts of all the 10 songs to be included on "Touch", their debut album. They got the opportunity of playing with bands like "Downset" (2/11/2002) and "Mudvayne"(11/02/2003). These concerts were very important with regard to the audience and the experience they gained.
GM gave more than 50 concerts in Italy from May 2003 up until the end of the year. They were concert openers for "Nevermore"(7/10/2003) at their one and only Italian concert (substituting the famous and talented Arch Enemy) and were included in the bill of the festival "A Summer Day in Hell" at the Arena Parco Nord in Bologna together with bands like "Blind Guardian", "Type O Negative", "Opeth", "Virgin Steele", "Extrema" etc.
At the beginning of October the band filmed the video "Natural", the first single from the album. After mixing and masterization, "Touch", distributed by Sony Music, was released in all Italian stores on November 7th.
Soon the greater parts of the italian rock magazines and sites had reviewed it, almost always in very positive terms. The video "Natural" was shown on ALL MUSIC (an italian tv channel as important as MTV) and put in high rotation on ROCK TV. The single was played by almost all Italian rock radio stations and put on high rotation at ROCK FM (the only italian rock network). The audience gave the album a very warm reception. There have been thousands of contacts through the site www.guiltymethod.com, hundreds of messages left in the guestbook and 1100 sold albums in only 3 months both thorugh the stores and at the concerts.
The first single was a great success (for an emerging band on the Italian rock scene, that is). For a couple of weeks it was number one on the most wanted chart at radio station Rock FM, that played Natural very frequently. However the most important part of the promotion is still the live-shows. These have increased considerably the number of fans in Italy during the first 6 months of the year 2004. The Touch Tour reached its top at the 12th of June 2004 when it brought Guilty Method to Arena Parco Nord of Bologna as openers (due to the defection of Backyard Babies) of the very important Flippaut rock festival.
