Zurawski Ensemble is a modern chamber music quintet, born in Portugal, which mixes Portuguese music elements in general (fado, contemporary, traditional music), erudite music, pop universe, Brazilian music. Those sounding landscape nuances are revealed through poetry and beauty of the Portuguese language sung word.
The group is a project which was idealized and musically conducted by Sérgio Zurawski, Brazilian guitarist, composer, producer, arranger, settled in Portugal since 2002.
Besides Zurawski (classic/electric guitars), who also writes the arrangements, Andreia João Lopes (voice), Cazé Costa (violoncelo), Manuel LuÃs Cochofel (flute) and Paulo Croft (classic guitar) are part of the group.
At the moment the Zurawski Ensemble is on recording of its first CD, due to be launched in February, 2009.
Besides songs composed by Zurawski and the portuguese lyricist Tiago Torres da Silva, part of Zurawski Ensemble present repertory is of songs composed originally in Brazil by Brazilian composers Branco Assunção, Estela Flores and Eduardo de Laet. Those songs make now the inverse route to the discovery of Brazil by Portugal, by crossing the Atlantic Ocean back to meet again their origins and roots, to be born again through a Portuguese aesthetic and optics.
