Mucio Sa has being able to move forward as an artist /composer, being peforming in Trio and solo his own compositions in a growing string of concerts..A notable sidemen,producer and arranger for World Music artists such as angolan Waldemar Bastos,portuguese FADO singers Ana Moura and Jorge Fernando,and brazilian Emlio Santiago (to name a few),Mucio lives in Lisbon since 1991.A multinstrumentalist,his main focus has being latelly the spanish guitar,”I was doing too many things at the same tiime and I decided to simplify and share my essence as an musician and composer using my first and main instrument ”Growing in Bahia he was exposed to nothern brazilian rythms since birth,FREVO and BAIAO are his favorites,he also listened to a lot of CAPOEIRAS music (berimbau,vocals and soft percussioin)later he was into a lot of CHORO,SAMBA and BOSSA NOVA.”as an kid ,brazilian Tv was an big part of my music educatiion ,..round late seventies they had great shows about samba and choro every week,I probally did most of my ear training playing guitar along with the TV set.”He decided to get more serious about music and moved from his hometown Itabuna to Bahia..s capital Salvador where he studied Classical Guitar and Contemporary Composition,”that was THE oportunity to have higer education in music and so I was deeply exposed to western classical music tradition,from Monteverdi to Alban Berg”.Also during the College years he got more and more influenced by JAZZ and FLAMENCO ,ASIAN TRADITIONAL MUSIC.”we had a fabulous library in the music college with all kind of music from the world,iI would spend hours in the library listening to all those hundreds of LP..S…building my own internal music library in my head.”By this timehe also was performing electric guitar and bass in BAIAO and FREVO groups but his main focus was on studing and composing.He left Brazil to Europe ,where he..s being “ all over the place” but he settled in Portugal.”My first big musical influences in Lisbon where the Fado and the African Pop Music scene,also as an session musician I was into do all kinds of music from SALSA to REGGAE”.He also performed a lot of PORTUGUESE TRADITIONAL MUSIC and also he often plays with the local Symphony Orchestras.”they would hire me to play mandolin,banjo or classical guitar parts “.He has also being often in Africa,mostly the former portuguese speaking countries,performing with local artists.”sometimes I would stay for a month in there”.In a move of artistic renaissence he devoted around two years to study with the great spanish guitarists,so he attended two summer workshops in Cordoba,Spain with FLAMENCO..S GREAT Manolo Sanlucar,studyng also with Jose Antonio Rodrigues and Manolo Franco.Also in Cordoba he studied Classical Guitar with the Assad Duo,in continuation he a studyed with Oscar Ghiglia and Roland Dyens in Seville,he also attended masterclasses with Alberto Ponce,Carles Trepat ,Maria Esther Guzman,Dejan Ivanovich,Darko Petriniak,Costas Costiolis…to name a few.In 2004 he won a literature prize in Portugal for his debut book “WAS BACH BRAZILIAN” done with co-writer Jorge Carlos ."O encontro entre o jazz e o Brasil!
