MONKEYS PROJECT

About Me

Monkeys project were formed in 2001 by Slainne and Michael Atlan, the singer-songwriter of the band Replica. Monkeys project is an experimental group with electronic leanings. After several singles, the group has released their very first album titled "Capharnaum" in october 2005. This first album has been made with the aim of both developing a concept around tones from different ages and multi-hued music structures and merging them to create real sound atmospheres. Titles originate from tracks' structures that are based on different moves like techno, ambient or progressive. "Music for an exhibition" is Monkeys Project's second album. This work is the result of our encounter with Véronique Hubert, an artist specializing in the collage technique. She suggested that our band start a collaboration for the development of music themes intended to accompany and represent her pieces of art in her exhibitions. In other words, Monkeys Project's music is Veronique's exhibition soundtrack. So we thought of a theme for our album based on a walk through an imaginary museum being the link between visual art and music. In this aim, we got inspiration from Mussorgsky's art, particularly ‘‘Pictures at an exhibition", which helped us set the structure for this project. From a musical point of view, this album is, in someways, a return to our origins, emphasizing a return to the progressive-rock style. In 2006, this album was nominated for 2 progawards : Best foreign record and Best Artwork.Released in September 2007, "the unknown planet from outer space" is the Monkeys Project’s third album. Inspired by Sci-Fi from the 50’s-60’s, this work is about captain John Fletcher’s trip, whose mission is to discover a new planet to colonise for the survival of mankind. This record is actually captain John Fletcher diary. It is made of speeches telling the story of the hero based on progressive tracks. This project is about a meeting between the band and the illustrator Jacques Toni, who designed the CD sleeve.
