He started out playing the guitar at 9, piano at 17, electric bass at 20 and percussion at 26. Although he never left any of those instruments behind, he caught everybody's eye as a percussionist. He explains that multi-instrumentalism as an organic need to produce music, and to look at music from other perspectives, with the goal of having the globalest view possible. He attended the Academia de Amadores de Musica de Lisboa, and the Jazz School of Hot Club de Portugal. But his real school was playing as much as he could, as much different genres he could, with as much musicians he could. So, during nearly 25 years he played Portuguese traditional, Brazilian, Moroccan, Angolan, Capeverdian and Mozambican music, as well as flamenco, rock, jazz, pop, contemporary and fado. During that long journey he played with Dulce Pontes, Fausto, Ivan Lins, Max Roach, Chico Cesar, Jordi Bonell, Barbara Togander, Ne Ladeiras, Laurent Filipe, Axel Krieger, Flavia Virginia, Dafnis Prieto, Pablo Shvarzmann, Sara Tavares, Paulo de Carvalho, Shuarma, as well as bands like Kyrie, El Cholo, Los Elefantes, Bazaar, Orkestina, La Media Luna and Ala dos Namorados, among many, many others. He also worked for 10 years as musical producer and composer for advertisement and soundtracks for documentaries and shortfilms. In 1998, Portuguese Sonymusic hired him to produce, arrange and direct the project Cantigas de Amigos, featuring top Portuguese musicians and singers like Luis Represas and Maria João, around Portuguese traditional songs. Right after that, he moved to Barcelona (Spain), and joined Valenti Adell and Argentinean flamenco bassist Mariano Martos, to co-produce Martos's debut record Un Compas Antes Que Suene El Despertador. Right now, he's working with Martos's group, Triando and La Rumbé, and also continues his work as a producer and soundtrack composer/producer ( particulary for contemporary dance, for choreographers such as Susana Gaspar and Conceição Nunes), as well as guitar, bass and percussion teacher. plain layout powered by HOT FreeLayouts.com / MyHotComments
