************************************************************ **********Aguafuego
the brainchild of JBeatz, is an evolving coming together of unique combinations of musicians to interpret her music. This songwriter/lyricist/singer /instrumentalist is dedicated to developing a new sound, rooted not only in her South-American heritage (Peru-Ecuador), but also encompassing her background in classical, reggae, rock, jazz, world, hip hop, latin and folk music. With original songs in Spanish and in English, Aguafuego brings a global mix of sounds that create a soulful blend, a tapestry for the timely lyrics and alluring melodies of JBeatz.Music Style: JBeatz combines Natalie Merchant’s rich vocals, the powerful lyrics of Bob Marley, and the soul of Gil Scot-Heron. Oaxerai brings the funk and hip hop grooves to the drums.****************************************************** *********************Additional Audio Clips:Voices of ProtestFlor de Santa Cruz (traditional South American) (320 K)I Fell In Love (460 K)Perception - Live at Elbo Room, Chicago (3.8 MB) (Trio- JBeatz, Christopher and Jon.

Our mission is to give eclectic music it’s space and appreciation. Our idea: Feature bands/solo artists that are women-led and that do not neatly fit into music industry categories. The concert series is about featuring women who write and perform eclectic music/poetry. We do not select cover bands. Bands/Artists may sell their CD’s, t-shirts, etc. ************************************************************ ***************Press Community Radio
... The album "Aguafuego" is gaining popularity here on Costa Rican community radio, especially the songs sung in spanish such as "No Tengo Razon."
(Quote from an article in centralamericaweekly.net) Reviews
"....Another highlight is the folksy yet funky guitar riffs of Voices Of Protest. JBeatz(sp) turns in an impassioned performance with her melodic contributions. Because of its understated tone, I think producers would have a field day will all kinds of remixes as there’s so much room left for additional layers of beats and things of that nature...."

* Discuss your feelings about the powerful or life-changing effects that music can have on a person -- I think that music taps into our spirit, our being. It has the power to reveal our inner self in many ways through rhythm, melodies and lyrics. I feel that music has taught me much about humility and hard work. It takes alot of work, however wonderful process that may be, to really find a unique "voice" or self-expressiveness. Too often it has become the norm in the music industry to describe one’s music in terms of someone else. I think this denies the very core of the singer, the songwriter, the musician. The power of music is that it is an affirming experience of each individual person. Don’t be put in any category by anyone else. Let your own true self fill every aspect of your music. ......... It is the simple expression of a person. ... I am an eternal student of life and I hope to share these experiences through music and lyrics with anyone listening in the years to come. JBeatz

Selasee***************************************************** *********************I have a deep love and respect for music from all over the world and recently learned of Allan Lomax and his amazing body of work documenting music/dance from all over the world. Alan Lomax advocated for cultural equity, the right of all cultures to equal representation in the media and the classroom. Comparative research on folk song style led him to discover parallels between natural and cultural ecology which make a strong case for preserving and fostering the intangible oral heritage of all people. He practiced a strategy he called cultural feedback, which calls for the return of traditions to their home sources and artists.
(from The Alan Lomax Collection website- see the photograph below to link to the website)I thought I’d share this information with all of us musicians on this space- as contributors and practitioners of all forms of music, let’s take a step back and acknowledge the traditions and often unseen "artists" who have added to our understanding of music from across the globe.Alan Lomax******************************************************* ******************* Link to Peruvian Culture Playlist at YouTube ..********************************************************** ****************

Expediency asks the question - Is it politic?
Vanity asks the question - Is it popular?
