Hans York creates music with brilliant emotional momentum. He's a consummate musician, traveling between folk, jazz, and pop effortlessly, while his voice soars above it all. Seeing him live, you understand that you are experiencing a world-class talent. His joy is infectious and his chops are superior. His voice feels smooth, silky, and unique, with a breathtaking three octave range that pulls you right in. Richly textured as well as utterly intimate, a true Renaissance musician that is skilled in many genres, knowing exactly how to blend them, and with the ability to sweep you off your feet.
With his first American album Inside Out York breaks down the walls between world, pop, folk, jazz and acoustic music, blending these styles with elegance and grace, resulting in a refreshingly original and intriguing work that shines with imagery and a joyful celebration of life and love.
German-born, National touring, Award winning Singer Songwriter Hans York has quickly made himself a name as an extraordinary open tuning (DADGAD) player. Hans is a strong, engaging performer with distinctive style, and an irrepressibly delightful and approachable manner. His playful voice draws comparisons to Sting, Stephen Bishop, Paul Simon, Kenny Rankin or Michael Franks, capturing the audience with its honesty and clearness.
He accompanied Robert Palmer on German TV, toured as bass player with the New York Broadway Ensemble, played throughout Europe with master harp player Ruediger Oppermann, and performed a Concerto as Soloist on fretless bass with the "Ars Quittilinga" Chamber Orchestra. (Concerto written by contemporary East German composer Thomas Koenig) Hans York co- founded the German Worldmusic cult band Moka Efti and recorded three CDs with them. The third album, Fata Morgana features US saxophonist Charlie Mariano and producer/saxophonist Heinrich von Kalnein (Vienna Art Orchestra).
Hans spent six months in Rio de Janeiro where he studied Samba, Bossa Nova and popular Brazilian music, an experience that upon his return to Germany, inspired his first solo album Hazzazar.
Hans York is a world musician in the true sense of the term, drawing most of his present day inspiration from his vast eclectic background.

Young Amelia is a low-key gem showcasing York’s impressive acoustic guitar playing, appealing tenor and strong songwriting skills. His approach to the guitar blends jazz, folk and Classical European styles into a sound that’s both familiar and unique. Self-produced and recorded live in the studio in a mere two and a half days with the help of some talented friends (credits below), Young Amelia shows off York’s distinctive guitar sound, full of rhythmic and melodic flourishes that impress without overwhelming the songs. York favors open tunings, which give his playing an expansive feel, marked by full, round notes and chiming overtones.

Young Amelia takes you on a subtle journey to explore the hidden recesses of the human heart with outstanding musicianship and deep compassion. The set includes “Tell Me Why,” a jazzy, Brazilian flavored tune marked by York’s impressive fretwork; the classic swing of “Invocation,” which will be the album’s first single, where York drops a bit of tongue twisting vocalese worthy of Jon Hendricks into the mix, and the gently rowdy ragtime of “Never Been in Love,” a tongue in cheek celebration of life after a failed relationship. Other standout tracks include “Young Amelia,” a ballad full of melancholic poetry that investigates the heartbreaking tension between love and loss, youth and old age; “Snow,” a tune with a circular guitar melody that suggests swirling snowflakes; the elegant, measured ballad “Inner Windows;” the newgrass bounce of “Lifeline,” and “Letting Go,” a hushed meditation on the death of a parent with one of York’s most poignant vocals. York will be touring extensively to support Young Amelia, impressing audiences with his remarkable musicianship and low-key charisma.

HANS YORK: Young Amelia

It’s the sound of simplicity and brilliance. With “Young Amelia” Seattle-based Award winning Singer Songwriter Hans York takes acoustic music to new heights. A sense of intimacy permeates each song as the listener is invited to travel an eloquent and emotional landscape ranging from playful to profound.

HANS YORK: Inside Out

The English debut solo album by Award winning, National touring Singer-Songwriter Hans York. From the opening note of the first (and title track) "Inside Out", listeners will encounter an inspiring journey into the heart and mind of a true world musician

HANS YORK: Sau Gut

With his second solo release "Sau Gut", Hans York continues to gracefully walk a line between Pop, Rock, Jazz, and World music and invites the listener to an exciting journey.

HANS YORK: Hazzazar
(The German Years Vol1)

Here is finally the glue between the old and the new world. Counter point mixed with Bossa Nova, the longing for a German Winter while baking in Rio De Janeiro or Steely Dan playing dices on a little boat down the Amazon.

" elegant, intuitive, and delightful."

Hans Yorks first English release is elegant, intuitive, and delightful. His many years of global musicianship pay off richly in these engaging and diverse songs. He has assembled a band of players equally sensitive, and together they offer up the distinctive, brilliant music that is the perfectly produced Inside Out.
One of the most compelling traits of this music is its intimacy. Yorks vocals are smooth, clear and seductive, reminiscent of Michael Franks. He easily captures your attention alone or in his perfect pairing with the similarly wonderful Elke Diepenbeck. Together they are unstoppable, a sweet force of nature.
Theres a great mix of genres and influences sprinkled throughout the CD. Some flawless waltzes (the definitive California Waltz), jazzy pop songs with Brazilian influence, and several eclectic ballads make for a potpourri of perfection. Guest artists are well placed throughout; check out Orville Johnsons slide guitar work on Miss You, and the amazing harp solo on the haunting standout track Listen to the Moon.
Pardon my rave, but Hans Yorks lovely first English album is simply stunning, thats all there is to it.
