Medieval & Renaissance Music in Costume

About Me

Mandragora have given costumed musical presentations, for a number of years now, to Schools & Historical Societies on the history & development of traditional musical instruments. These presentations feature many of our more unusual instruments including the Hammered Dulcimer, Hurdy Gurdy, Shawm, Bombarde, Crumhorn, Mouth Bow, Horn, Psaltery etc etc. *..........* . Mandragora also provide suitable music in costume for Wedding Banquets, Irelands first Jousting Tournaments at Shane & Slane Castles, plus a wide variety of other historic re-enactment events including Medieval Banquets & Jousts. *..........* . Mandragora also provide music each year, in period costumes, for a whole host of historical and re-enactment events throughout Ireland, for the prestigious: 'Irish Arms' [ http://www.irisharms.ie/ ] who are responsible for authentic re-enactment events around the country, including Film & TV work. *..........* . Mandragora are available to provide suitable ancient music, in costume, for Druidic ceremonies, including Weddings. *..........* . I composed the first tune above to celebrate the huge Medieval Festival at Slane Castle back in 2003. Loughareema, can be seen from the road from Ballycastle to Cushendall in North Antrim & is also known as the 'Vanishing Lake'. *..........* . The other three tunes we played with our good friends Caitriona & Marcas O'Murchu who played Flutes, Whistle & Tambard & if you listen closely you can hear Caitriona dancing on the last track! For those really interested in Ireland's Reenactment scene, I would recommend that you check out the forum here at: & also visit these three websites: Irish Arms at: Montague Heritage Services at: & The Irish History Company' at: Check out my other Band Space at: Hope you enjoy this clip which was filmed by http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=WindsOfCreation at the Budapest Folk Arts Festival in Hungary. The first few songs of the medley are Ugros (jumping dance) melodies, followed by some Csárdás songs. The instruments appear to be (from left to right):- Koboz (a lute like instrument) - Duda (Hungarian Bagpipe type instrument) - Teker Lant (A Hungarian variant of the Hurdy Gurdy) * To learn more about the Traditional Music of North Antrim, visit my NORTH ANTRIM MUSIC FORUM at: http://www.gossiping.net/phpBB2/index.php?mforum=northantrim musi *.....* FILMED AT THE 'BUDAPEST FOLK ARTS FESTIVAL'17th AUGUST 2006: ............................................................ ............................................................ ........... ............................................................ ............................................................ ...........
