Dawoud - 21st Century Sitar! Mystic Jaz!

About Me

The musical offerings you are enjoying were honed through years of hard work.
I began playing guitar shortly after Jimi Hendrix died; and began sitar on my 18th birthday.
After touring the Midwest US with a few rock bands, I moved to New York City in 1983.
To further perfect the craft I offer you, I engaged in study under George Pritchett, Kelvyn Bell (Lester Bowie, Arthur Blythe, Roland Shannon Jackson), Jeff Slatnick (Ali Akbar Khan, Ravi Shankar), Michael Harrison (Pandit Pran Nath, LaMonte Young); and at master classes with Pat Martino and Dr. Yusef Lateef.
My achievements between 2001 & 2005 include: Building his home recording studio. Many sessions and live performances. Teaching; privately, and with the Bronx School of Music and Art, and the Harlem School of the Arts. Began performing in Europe as a bandleader (Paris, Milan, Zurich, Copenhagen, etc.). Received radio airplay in Europe, Russia, and Indonesia. In 2005, "Renegade Sufi" was released in Europe, and later in the US. Performances in Italy and France were well received.2007 I began work on my next CD, producing film soundtracks, performing, recording, teaching, and learning the dulruba. Tours of the US and Europe are being planned.
You are looking at this page because you seek an inner and outer Vision of all that is and is not.
You seek a unique and beautiful musical experience.
You dare to transcend mere entertainment.
You reject the slavery of mediocrity.
You are waking from a dream, and are not content to replace it with another dream.
This is an initiatory musical experience that assists in apotheosis.
The direct experience of Islamic mysticism through a new music.
Thanks to all of you all over the world who have visited me, and enjoyed my music!!
