Democracy... NOT Theocracy!

About Me

Atheism, in its broadest sense, is the absence of theism (the belief in the existence of deities). This encompasses both people who assert that there are no gods, and those who make no claim about whether gods exist or not. Narrower definitions of atheism, however, typically only label people who affirmatively assert the nonexistence of gods as atheists, classifying other nonbelievers as agnostics or simply non-theists.Many people who self-identify as atheists do tend to share common skeptical concerns regarding the evidence (or lack of evidence) of the world's many deities and creation stories as well as questioning the goodness and morality of religions that have brought us such things as holy wars and inquisitions. Yet while some adhere to philosophies such as humanism, naturalism and materialism, there is no single ideology that all atheists share, nor does atheism have any institutionalized rituals or behaviors. Indeed, atheism is inspired by many rationales, encompassing personal, scientific, social, philosophical, and historical reasoning.Agnosticism, is the philosophical view that the truth values of certain claims—particularly theological claims regarding the existence of God, gods, or deities—are unknown, inherently unknowable, or incoherent, and therefore, (some agnostics may go as far to say) irrelevant to life. The term and the related agnostic were coined by Thomas Henry Huxley in 1869, and are also used to describe those who are unconvinced or noncommittal about the existence of deities as well as other matters of religion. The word agnostic comes from the Greek a (without) and gnosis (knowledge). Agnosticism is not to be confused with a view specifically opposing the doctrine of gnosis and Gnosticism—these are religious concepts that are not generally related to agnosticism.Agnosticism, is distinct from, but compatible with, atheism. It is also compatible with theism. This is because agnosticism is a view about knowledge concerning God, whereas theism and atheism are beliefs (or lack thereof) concerning God. For example, it is possible to believe in God but to believe that knowledge about God is not obtainable.Agnostics may claim that it isn't possible to have absolute or certain spiritual knowledge or, alternatively, that while certainty may be possible, they personally have no such knowledge. Agnosticism in both cases involves some form of skepticism towards religious statements. Some claim that there is nothing distinctive in being an agnostic because even theists do not claim to know God exists, only to believe it, and many even agree there is room for doubt; and atheists in the broader sense do not claim to know there is no God, only not to believe in one.Our Goal…My space is becoming one of the largest social networking services on the internet. We have the opportunity to speak out and be heard by millions. I have created this account to unite people of similar (non)religious beliefs no matter what ethnicity, sexual orientation, or political stance. If you become a member of this site you can stay up to date with current religious affairs that may be imposing there beliefs into our society and breaking the line between church and state.I personally am an Atheist but I am not trying to impose my personal beliefs onto others. I have many friends with very different beliefs than me and I think everyone is entitled to their own opinions and beliefs. But when religion is used to get in the way of science and the advancement of western medication that is where we should draw the line! America is leaning more and more towards a theocracy and this needs to stop!I am constantly up to date with the Freedom From Religion Foundation, American Atheists and Americans United. I will take anything I see important from these organizations and post them as blogs for everyone to read. Feel free to leave any comments or suggestions you like.More to come soon. Thanks, ~Kyle
