Being wealthy [and free] is Hell on a dead planet

About Me

I've done some kind of design most of my adult life, and ironically got my first job when I finally achieved my degree in business administration because I could draw and design graphics. I've co-illustrated a children's book ('Arbuna'-1974) , designed commercial and residential stained and etched glass, graphics, signs, brass door handles (the Excalibur restaurant off Northwestern Highway in Southfield, MI back in '79), woodwork, carved doors, and now I'm breaking into the web design biz (yeah I know, who isn't?). I love just about anything that has to do with creating or aesthetics, actually.

In 1975 I hitch-hiked through eastern Canada to Quebec, down into Maine, drove to and around Nova Scotia and back to Maine, then hitch-hiked back to Michigan through the eastern U.S. I lived on an island called Kosrae in Micronesia with an island family for 4-1/2 months in 1979, and drove coast-to-coast in an 18-wheeler once in the winter of 1980, and 2-1/2 times in July of 1988. My boss sent me to St. Thomas, Virgin Islands for doing a good job on his catalog and logo back in '95, I've been to Mexico once, lived in Florida briefly and Texas for 10 years. A few years ago I went to Amsterdam for an extended weekend for the heck of it. I camped out on, and helped crew a sailboat sailing from Newport, RI to Boston, MA, 8/5-8/13/06. I want my next trip to be somewhere where I can learn how to surf!

I'm a big animal lover, (my cat reminds me of the Simpson's black cat, Snowball), a music lover, and I re-cycle!

Most of my friends are either in the advertising or food business, musicians, write, or are just plain creative and kooky. So is most of my family, come to think of it!

"Some mornings it just doesn't seem worth it to gnaw through the leather straps."--Emo Philips

My Interests

Just about anything that involves art, design, music, or is set in a beautiful, natural area, like a tropical beach or an untouched ski trail, which is why I like ice skating, snow and water-skiing, and surfing. I like watching hockey, football, and basketball. I'm a big history buff, love reading about the sciences, and into anything that reveals how all this stuff we take for granted came to be. Oh, yeah, and curing cancer and establishing world peace.

I'd like to meet:

Someone smart with a good heart and a silly sense of humor. Someone with a great sense of adventure (but who is a calculated risk-taker--no sky-diving without a parachute, please!), a knowledge of fine things but isn't a snob, diverse interests but focused goals; and someone who can keep up with me, teach me something I don't know, and add something to my life that I don't have.

"Treat the Earth well. It was not given to you by your parents. It was loaned to you by your children." -- Kenyan proverb
