New album out now!

About Me

Stig Nielsen (b. 1977 on the island of Samsø) is a Danish songwriter, singer and guitarist. His music reflects an itching fascination of stripped-down melancholy, dark Americana mythology and spiritual longings in a blend of folk, alt. country, roots, blues and spirituals. Stig has performed his songs in various Danish venues since 1994 and has, along the way, earned the nickname Country Stig...CS Nielsen's debut album "Against the Dying of the Light" is out now on independent Danish record label Songcrafter Music. The album is produced by Jacob Horney and consists of eleven self-penned songs. The album is widely available in Danish music stores. Listen to four of the tracks above.

Influences: Well, life - and all the questions that come and go with it... Life is for living and singing about, and I prefer the songbooks of "Old, Weird America". I find a huge source of inspiration in the drama and storytelling, poetry and wisdom, brutality and anxiety, weariness and sadness, loss and loneliness, energy and drive, desperation and yearning, humor and wit, justice and rebellion, hell, fire and brimstone, faith, hope and love, flesh, blood and bone, spirit and soul, guts and heart - and art! - packed (layer upon layer) in the traditions of folk music: hillbilly, songster, blues, Elizabethan/Appalachian ballads, old-time, bluegrass, ragtime, gospel, spirituals, hollers, shanties, Tin Pan Alley, honky-tonk, rhythm & blues, rockabilly, rock & roll, beat, urban folk, folk rock, country rock, outlaw, singer/songwriter, lo-fi, goth folk, etc. - plenty to go around for Saturday nights and Sunday mornings, and all the blue Mondays as well... I like my water clear, so I try to draw from the deepest wells around: Bob Dylan, Johnny Cash, Hank Williams, Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, Emmylou Harris, Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Gillian Welch, Mississippi John Hurt, Doc Watson, Ralph Stanley, Robert Johnson, Louvin Brothers, Nick Cave, Tom Waits, Elvis Presley, Merle Haggard, Kris Kristofferson, Staple Singers, Delmore Brothers, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Jean Ritchie, Ramblin' Jack Elliott, John Jacob Niles, Lucinda Williams, Bill Monroe, Flatt & Scruggs, Merle Travis, Skip James, Sis. Rosetta Tharpe, Rev. Gary Davis, Golden Gate Quartet, Blind Willie Johnson, Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Goebel Reeves, Dock Boggs, Son House, Leadbelly, Lightnin' Hopkins, Howlin' Wolf, John Lee Hooker, Rolling Stones, Everly Brothers, Crosby, Stills & Nash, Simon & Garfunkel, JJ Cale, John Fogerty, Guy Clark, Jerry Jeff Walker, John Prine, Mickey Newbury, Tom Paxton, Tim Hardin, Hoyt Axton, Hank Snow, Blue Sky Boys, Elizabeth Cotten, Gordon Lightfoot, Jimmie Driftwood, Lefty Frizzell, Patsy Cline, Gram Parsons, Lee Hazlewood, Paul Robeson, Roy Orbison, Mahalia Jackson, Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith, Dave Van Ronk, Bob Wills, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, The Band, Randy Newman, Joni Mitchell, Ray Charles, Led Zeppelin, Steve Earle, David Eugene Edwards, Ryan Adams, Mark Lanegan, White Stripes, Daniel Lanois, Cowboy Junkies, Handsome Family, Stephen Foster, Cecil Sharp, Francis James Child, John Lomax, Alan Lomax, Ralph Peer, John Hammond, Sam Phillips, Harry Smith, Greil Marcus, a whole bunch of other def poets, storytellers, filmmakers, artists, visionaries, rebels, pilgrims, preachers, prophets, philosophers, sinners and saints - and such wells won't dry out for a while...
Sounds Like: Any playlist from Dylan's Theme Time Radio Hour - dreams, schemes and themes...
