Dust of Many Horses out now.

About Me

Known to many as a producer and accompanist for the likes of roots legend Chris Smither, new wave Americana craftsmen Peter Mulvey and Jeffrey Foucault, and folk sensation Redbird, Goodrich continues to hone a sound all his own. Played countless times on National Public Radio, his music has been adapted for use in feature and documentary films, museum exhibits, and even video games. Fans of Pat Metheny, Bill Frisell, and Ry Cooder will find DUST OF MANY HORSES the perfect companion.
Not many musicians can compose and record songs that reflect the soul of truly American music drawing from jazz, acoustic and improvisational traditions and present them with a pitch-perfect ear for the contemporary.
With the 2006 release of DUST OF MANY HORSES, David Goodrich advances his claim as one of the most original guitarist-composers on the contemporary Americana scene.
Goodrich brings the confidence of an innovative craftsman and the inspiration of a true artist to this stunning new collection. The 11 songs are infused with passion for the full range of moods music can evokejoy, sadness, play, contemplationwhen it is deeply imagined and exquisitely played.
From the two-part title track, a modern western epic with multiple rhythm guitar harmonics and soaring slide, to the romance of The Believer, a longing-filled ballad, Goodrich strikes a perfect balance between composition and improvisation, intimacy and adventurousness. Layering acoustic and electric instruments, the songs are infused with an effortlessness that only comes from careful execution and serious talent.
The collections luminescent, often cinematic, originals are complemented by carefully selected covers and collaborations: a moody reinvention of Nirvanas Come As You Are; a live duet version, with longtime collaborator Peter Mulvey, of John Coltranes After the Rain; and a collaborative improvisation titled Lumen with Kris Delmhorst on vocals and cello.
Merging the sensibilities of his two previous solo releases, DUST OF MANY HORSES marries the ambient, electric sound of Failure of the Doping Summit with the melodic, acoustic feel of Accidentals of the West, offering up a wealth of richly layered compositions and soulful playing inflected with equal parts inevitability and surprise.
