Slash And I Have The Same Birthday!

About Me

Myspace Layouts at Pimp-My-Profile.com / Splatter

I grew up singing. Or complaining. Or bugging my younger brother. What can I say? I was just a normal kid with limited access to television, much like all kids in those days.
It was an easy going childhood for a tomboy and I had dreams of being a horse (not OWNING a horse, but BEING a horse), of training Seeing Eye Dogs for the blind (we'd put a homemade version of the special guide harness on the family mutt), and of COURSE, my all time favorite DREAM..to be a professional SINGER!
I knew it from the time I was 5 years old. Mom said I'd sing my favorite songs at the top of my lungs while swinging as high as I could on the swingset out back of the house.
MUSICAL STYLE, you ask? I guess I feel most fully alive when I'm improvising or re-arranging tunes that tell a great story. I LOVE jazz. I love to play the guitar on the kind of songs that remind me of my musical roots or some event that happened in my life. I love horn bands and I love to swing hard, love to scream hard, love to entertain a crowd. It's pretty simple, really.
Like many musicians, I've always known what I wanted and luckily I've been able to DO just what I wanted in this life.
So.. no regrets and thanks be to God!

JANELLE LAUNCHES HER NEW SINGLE PERFORMANCE!
____________________________________________________________ ___ It's been a lot of work getting back into the guitar playing..let me tell you!
However, flexibility IS the key to life, isn't it? I'm having lot of fun exploring this new format and will be posting my upcoming appearances very soon. MUCH THANKS to my talented friends for letting me sub on their steady club gigs, as I completely enjoy learning new things! The guitar has been a source of comfort MANY times during my life and it feels so natural to be playing again...Life is GOOD!
A FANTASTIC TIME WAS HAD PERFORMING WITH THE LONG BEACH MUNICIPAL BAND DURING THEIR EIGHT WEEK SUMMER SERIES!
____________________________________________________________ __ When sax player MIKE WHITMAN called me up a few weeks back and asked if I would like to be a featured singer with this legendary BIG BAND, I jumped at the chance. My appearances included four concerts in four days at different venues around the Long Beach, CA area.
This band employs many of the top musicians in the LA area and features arrangements by the famed BILL LISTIN, so it would be an understatement to say I was honored to be asked.
You need a BIG VOICE for this gig folks, but with each show I felt more and more comfortable!
Appearing in the video is conductor LARRY CURTIS, who is a very talented musician/educator and made me feel completely charmed and welcomed.
MUCH THANKS TO MIKE WHITMAN, ED MARTEL for working with me on the charts/arrangements and to singer TONY GALLA for giving me heads up on the scene! I caught his stellar set the week before mine...WHEW!! The bar is set awfully HIGH out here in CA, with local favorite BARBARA MORRISON also being one of the regular talents that appears in this series.
If you get a chance and you live in the LA area, you've got to check out this band's summer concert season next year. The crowds can number into the thousands! Those LONG BEACH FOLKS LOVE THEIR LIVE MUSIC and I'm ever so grateful for it.

NEW REVIEW OF THE JANELLE SADLER QUARTET!

"A SOLID SENDER"
Category: Music
By MARK MILLER www.myspace.com/markmillerjazz

Authenticity trumps everything. When somebody is infused with music and the joy of making music, they can't really make a false move.
JANELLE SADLER is the real thing. She's honed her craft singing backup for some of the biggest names in the business, and when she takes her turn front and center at the mic you can feel her authenticity. She's as real and welcome as the first sunny day that cuts through the June gloom.
Its more than just a great set of pipes, which she certainly posesses. Its a sense of her own worth, and a craft learned on the road, in the stadiums, in the little clubs, the recording studios - its all there. Presence, humor, musicianship, honesty, generosity, intelligence, toughness - these are the qualities that make for great artistry. Quite simply, Janelle Sadler has them all.
Whether she's delivering her heart wrenching, plaintive reading of Janis Ian's "Jesse", or slinking through her Nina Simon-esque "My Baby Just Cares For Me", or belting out her great version of "Tainted Love", Janelle Sadler is what they used to call in jazz a "solid sender". She handles be-bop, country, rock, her own originals, and swing. (Her delightfully swingy version of "Blue Skies", with Janelle comping herself on guitar, is sublime)
There is never a sense that she is superimposing a style, or copping an attitude. She inhabits each genre like she was born to it. Its all music to her, folks, and she owns every bit of it.
Damn good trio, too - ADAM COHEN on bass, SINCLAIR LOTT on drums, and Janelle's wonderful hubby, ROBIN SWENSON (no slouch himself) on piano. These folks are fun to hang out with on the breaks, too - a major plus in this business!
It was a hip, adult, appreciative crowd, and just about the best time this old nightclub warhorse could expect to have on a Friday on the West Side of Los Angeles.
Am I gushing? You bet. That chick is a solid sender!

Hear CLIPS from JANELLE'S 2004 release:
"DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH"
featuring JACK LECOMPTE on drums and HARVEY NEWMARK on bass.

"What stands out on "DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH" is
the vibrancy with which Janelle Sadler swings and scats with fluid ease.
Articulate and instantly communicative,
she's a singer who relates to a broad audience."

Influences:

(Sketch by Janelle)

Family, Robin and stubbornly dedicated friends,
Past loves and all the baggage/joy they brought,
High School choir class, Outdated guitars, Steely grandmothers,
My old stereo,
Salty horn players (I love you guys),
Sir William Wallace, Growing up near the beach,
Interested souls who somehow retain the excitement without smelling a fast buck,
Spiritual searches and the preacher I dated once,
Crusty survivors who continue to create even when it's not fashionable, big cabernets and running shoes.

CHECK OUT THIS YOUNG PERFORMER JANELLE MONAE! SHE WINDS IT UP VERY NICELY! I LOVE GREAT LIVE SHOWS:

Sounds Like: Who really cares? Do YOU?

"LIFE MOMENTS" TV REALITY SHOW FOOTAGE BELOW.
Entitled "The Recording Of The First Song" for my 2004 CD release "DON'T MAKE ME LAUGH."
JIM GILLARD (producer/vocalist/songwriter) is the cute blonde guy with the glasses,
my engineer is JOEL SOYFFER,
and of course, my husband (keyboardist/vocalist/songwriter) ROBIN SWENSON!
The fabulous women in the snipet are
KELLY MONEYMAKER a wonderful singer/producer
and LYNN FANELLI a kickass rock singer/educator who has taught me so much since I've been in this town.
The show included footage of NATALIE COLE who was so cool to agree to be a part of my story, and I will include that snipet at a later date.
Thanks for watching!
